A few recent jobs Bricks, Stones etc.



Portacabin , no PP for a building, but they wanted it to look real.
supplier put pent roof on, I did brick effect and stone legs.

carving each line is a pain, but overall effect pretty good.

10 stories high, 100 degrees in the shade, 200 steps up the ladders, and 6 weeks eating junk food, lite beer and big steaks.
Along with 22 houses, 4 shops and a 1000 yards of walls.
Probably the biggest job ever done at one address.

YES its all done with the same stone coat product. Even the cross.

stone effect UK is now in training mode. After extensive thrashing this out with the French owners/manufacturers they have agreed to start training wanna be applicators.

Looks good....the trouble with this system is that it needs to get bba approval for it to be big business... :-(

In 7 years of trading I have never been asked for BBA certification. Not once. The European tests and CE markings is all any 'contract' architect asked for. I got that job and 4 others from the same company.

As for making money.
Considering an average sqmtr price around £75-100 depending on the requirements and prep, the average job netts £1000 a day pro rata.
I have completed jobs from 650sq mtrs (exterior), to a fireplace for a measly £500. Despite that a fireplace is completed in 5--6 hours so I guess even they are 'good business'
stone effect now has 1300 applicators in 10 countries. The UK has over 14,000 sq mtrs completed in homes, restaurants, sheds, factories and public buildings.
The fact is that with stone effect,there is a artistic skill in forming the shapes and stones by hand. No rubber mats or cut out stencils. Putting it on the wall is the simple bit. 25-30 sq mtrs a day is good if the weather is favorable. (Spray/Dry/Colour/Carve)
but that is finished, coloured.............. end of. (get paid)

The look and feel in my humble opinion is more stone like.
I do like your 'sponsors' version as it fits certain requirements, and I know there is room for all types, but there are many potential applicators out there and some will like yours, some like stone effect. as for making money..... I am busier now than anytime in the past 3 years.

you may not have been asked for it but it wont get specced by architects until it is... its great for a bit here and bit there and I am right behind @PICSbob for the wallcrete but for it to be "big" business it needs to start getting used on some big projects...

@warriorupnorth has done the best from it as far as I can tell but that was a lot of hard work for him to promote... there is a market for it but plasterers just are not enough to do all of the promotion and marketing for it

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am not trying to prove anything here. The big business concept means what ??? I am happy to carry on as I am, OR offer training to anyone that wants another string in their bow. stone effect wants more business of course and I am sure I can't handle much more. So other guys needed.
Funnily enough ( and Warrior might agree), spreads and brick layers are the hardest peeps to train. Flat smooth surfaces and perfect horizontal 'courses' are the last thing we are trying to achieve when applying, and no corner beads really messes with heads.

stone effect has been around for 15 years, they are a part of the Vega Industries Group and do very well I guess. Now in USA, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Gernany, Pland, Italy, Brazil etc etc.

I agree it is hard work promoting any product especially in the UK building industry during the recession. Frankly I have NOT targeted 'commercial' work as private jobs pay better, pay quickly and have less issues with deposits. The restrictions on sites, HSE, method statements, reduced sqmtr rates and not getting paid for months etc etc, just don't merit the work sometimes, though some might like that sort of thing. (I'm 56 you know!!! Starting to slow down)....

To see what the score is I have written to the BBA and they have replied already, all certification is in place and sent. So I await the resulting replies.

As for busy.....
In March I have been around a bit. NW Scotland, 7 days in a hotel (interior job, thank god), A day in Boston Lincs (interior, domestic), three days in London ( 4th job for same commercial company). next two jobs Hotel in Isle of Wight and a camp/holiday park in Grimsby (Holiday in Grimsby !!!!!) 3 days promotional work in Cotswolds and a week in Paris.
April will also see a return to Scotland as the Hotel wants more doing, and a full house exterior in Lancashire (near home for a change) and a week holiday (first for 2 years) so happy does and happy is !!!

Great looking brick work transformed a building, your stone work looks really impressive.

Having been to the wallcrete day be good to see the differences
