I was looking at a house that was EWI'd in the 80's . It was a german that built the house out of metal stud and cement board , then 40mm board and some kind of acrylic . Its all failed now , the adhesive has pulled off the cement board and the mesh has perished so I plan to take it all back to the cement board and go new with 100mm platinum boards .
What I'm wondering is the best way to fix the boards to the cement board as its only about 20mm thick ? Are there screws or special fixings to use on cement board ? Thanks

Hi Mate

There are a lot of specialist screws for fixings into cement boards - as Dan has said, most system suppliers will have a range or will specify them.... I know Ryan at plaster 1 stop has a full range as well...... @Plasterers1StopShop

You may also want to do a pull out check on the cement board, not all of them have the required pull outs for some systems, in which case you will need to fix through to the studs...... The fixing supplier will advise how to do a pull test (or sort a specialist to do it for you)

Good Luck

Are they screws or hammer in pins usually ? They have hammer in pins in the old ones but not enough and they didnt get a great grip on the cement board .
Ill give weber a shout next week to see what they have for them

Hi Mr Jones....

Yes - direct bond only EWI systems (such as Parex and Solix) can be used, but only as per manufacturers specification!

Good Point......
