I am currently renovating a terraced house and have had a new dpc injected. The specialist has said I need to baton the external walls and plasterboard over the top. Having done some research I have noticed that a vapour barrier needs to be installed. Also I was going to use a thicker baton and fit insulation at the same time. My questions are. What insulation do you recommend at about 50mm? What vapour barrier would you recommend? When fitting the vapour barrier does it go towards the exterior wall or the plasterboard side. Do I need to fit foil backed plasterboard or can I use standard?

Thanks

If you are going to insulate,50mm would be minimum ,have the timbers nice and plumb, fit the insulation nice and tight, use celotex or equivalent solid insulation ,tape over all joints with silver tape, you can use foil back board as an additional vapour shield, an air gap at back of insulation would help too, it depends on what space you have to play with, if enough, use mf stud.

Thanks for that. Is MF stud easy enough to use, haven't used it before. Do you build them like a normal stud wall in front of the external wall and fix to floor and ceiling joists or is there a one that attaches to the wall. Sorry for being thick.

You could use 50MM celotex. 1200 gauge poly stapled to the joists then use 30mm thermal boards as a bit extra insulation. It depends. There's an option for every budget

You can fit channel in floor and ceiling and fit uprights in between, with stabilisers fixed to wall and stud, easy enough a system, more reliable than timber

What will be minimum depth I would need. Just checked out a video on it and it looks quite easy to do. Had a look for depth of channel and can't seem to see what the depth of it is. Does it require a gap between the frame and the wall or can I put it as close as level will allow.

Thanks johniosaif you're a star. Will have a look to see if I can get it in 50mm or there abouts and then 50mm insulation with an air gap of about 10mm behind if you think that's enough.
