Can't stand them personally, prefer to form with board and use arch beads
Absolutely, those kits deserve to be in the ninth circle of hell.
Even those plastic arch beads are a pain in the arse.
I know if an original feature is arched then you deal with it, domestic customers who want to form arches that weren't there before can f**k off.

I’ve done them before with PB and arch beads. Strip of Pb cut every inch on back to form curve in the arch and bond out.
 
I remember seeing formers that were ridgid white plaster type ,just screw to studs . Long time ago thou.
