you will need a skilled cscs card Link Removed give them a call on 0844 248 5262

is there any need for a domestic plasterer to have one.. iv never worked on a site but not sure if it is worth having in case a good call comes up.

oasis every single job ive seen advertised lately you need one, mainly site but also firms working on domestic properties. There is no escaping i think and once the man in the street gets onto it which wont be long coz they are coming in for most types of manuel jobs they will want to see it. They have your quals on the back and in this day and age its a lttle benefit to some customers that they are dealing with someone with qualifications rather than someone with none, there are plenty of arguements against them mainly from unqualified tradesmen but it may be the difference in getting the job or losing out to someone with one. Have a look on a lot of plastering websites and those who have them are advertising the fact, this will get the customer thinking.

oasis, when i went to get mine the blokes exact words were 'you will need one officially to do any plastering work but mrs jones down the road won't know that so you will get away with doing her extension'

so you probably should but will more than likely get away with it. i got mine just to be on the safe side. £75 well spent imo.

I reckon that once they have the site work side of the trade sorted they'll go after the domestic guys. Just think of the money they can generate from doing this. If it hadn't been for the last boom in the building industry they would have implemented these changes years ago, the recession has been perfect timing for them to enforce the changes as there are more tradesmen than vacancies for the first time (last 2 years) in a long while. I got my first CSCS card in about 1994 and was told that you wouldn't be able to work on site without one within 2 years ???

its only cost £75? i take it they need to come and see me work?

with me, the bloke that came out said hes not here to see IF i can do it, hes just there to see me do it. and they ask you aload of bullshit questions that he pretty much answers for you. then you take a quick health and safety test, it took me 8 minutes. then you get your card and cert a couple of weeks later. it was £75 because the council in coventry got a grant for this exact reason, for those who are fully trained but not qualified, so you can go on site in 2010.

they take pointless pics of you working (he took one of me putting a bucket of s**t into a skip, and one of me sweeping, all in PPE)

A new qual is on its way for domestic work called heritage skills. Covers majority of trades and is aimed at older type properties, think it's pre 1919 or something like that. More info on the cskills website.

Someone told me that if you apply for a CSCS card with an ICA qualification the card says 'trainee' on it

Not sue if it will say trainee on it with your ICA, I think that it will only say trainee if your registered for your NVQ mate. Best bet is to give them a ring and ask them direct.

Got a meeting with English heritage and the relevant enhancement funds and training on weds 25th nov ' i will keep you informed

oasis send me £50 and i'll find you a cscs card dont worry about that. you might have to grow a moustache and change your name though...

bit of a nosey c**t but is it concerning this card?

if you have city and guilds you either need your indentures or apprenticeship completion certificate to get the proper card otherwise you will get an experienced worker and still be expected to complete the nvq within 12 months

Well this seems to be all about TAX, and trying to find all the cash jobs we do.

Remember a bit back when all widow fitters had to be FENSA registered, all in the name of quality for the customer etc.

Well thats a pile of shight. At the time the plastic window industry was worth £1.6 billion per year! Lets say just 10% of that was cash jobs. Yep £160 million quids worth of tax lost

Same as 'part P' for sparks, every job they do now is traceable, and corgy (or whatever its called today) for plumbers.

It will never actually work because a spark can do a full rewire for cash and do the test for a £60 cheque and say someone else rewired it, he only tested it.

Am I a cynic? am I reading far too much into it?................Well lets see shall we!

What do you initialy expect this card to do or prove?.....that you are a plasterer yeah?

Well the post above from steve_cov_spread proves thats not true.

They came to him but didnt check his ability or skill or anything, what they DID do was take his details and photograph him and add him to their database AND charged him £75 aswell!!!

If it isn't allready it will soon become a yearly £75 fee basically becoming a new 'tax on being a plasterer' as well and linking you to jobs.

Will I be getting one..........................I dont think so sonny Jim :)
