You would add hardwall in to the cavity as well or you would fil it with form? If it's the former, you are not worried about Hardwall being close to the outside elements? I think the end of the cavity is the other other side of the door frame.

The decorator has done excellent work to be fair. Even though he recommended the guy (basically said he's worked with him in other projects and he's OK) he said he was happy for to go with any plasterer. I just think it's not fair if he has to do all the work to sort out the plasterer's mess...

The bricks look dry to me however it is right next to the front door frame. so wall might be getting a lot of moisture. Maybe I was exaggerating when I said it was like a paste, OK not that wet but it wasn't dry/hard. Didn't notice any patches when the lining paper was there and don't remember...

So I've removed all the bonding (some of it was very wet, like a paste) and now it's back to the bricks. Area is about 150cm x 40cm. Needs to have Hardwall or Limitelite as the backing plaster and then reskim up to the rest of the wall. I'm thinking it's less than a half a day's work. What...

So here's an update. The guy game today and he tried to bullshit me again and I called him out, there was an argument and he left. Also saw one of his guys emptying the bucket with dirty water in to the toilet after cleaing trowels and stuff. Don't think we'll have them in our house again...

The guy originally suggested Hardwall to fill the 150cm x 30cm area (after removing Bonding his guys had added) next to the front door. I suggested Limelite but he hasn't used that before so he's planning to use sand and cement. Would you choose Hardwall over sand and cement? If so why?

The plasterer said he'll use sand/cement as the backing coat. I was happy with it because I had seen that suggested in lots of places for external walls.

I don't know what they look like. I think they had those big Refina trowels. If he uses Limelite it will be to build the wall back up and then multifinish will go on top. So does it matter if it's (Limelight plaster) smooth or whatever?

Yes I would put these guys in that category. Obviously had we known that we wouldn't have hired them. Anyway it doesn't seem to be the worst job. Mate, can you please tell me if Limelight is easy enough to use for your average plasterer? Anything they need to do differently?

I don't want to go around in circles. I have already explained the situation. I don't have much confidence in these guys anymore. He's already offered to re-do with Hardwall but apparently it's not suitable either. I think he and hig guys are average plasterers and I'm not sure he's used...

I've read that Hardwall absorbs less moisture than Bonding. But Sand and cement seems to be what's recommended in most places after a google search. However I've also seen Limelite suggested as a replacement for Lime plaster. Not sure what's better!

What do you recommend we do? Doesnt' lime plaster also absorb moisture? The fact that it was bone dry before, doesn't it mean, that section is unlikely to be damp?

Mate those old walls look horrible. In comparison our old walls were 100 times better. Seriously they were pretty smooth walls without many cracks. I accept that on close inspection they might not be that smooth.

It wasn't cheap. And we had couple of other plasterers come around to look at the job and they all quoted around the same price. They didn't mention to us that the job would be a lot more difficult or we would get a bad finish having picture rails and architraves in there.
