help - think my plasterer is trying to rip me off?

He certainly sounds like a dodgy tradesman to me. What difference does it make to him having the cash in this day and age, a bank transfer usually clears instantly, and certainly within 24hrs. He sounds like quite a small outfit to me and is probably not vat registered, so him adding vat would...

Yellow pages are making all of the books smaller, so the size of the page will be about 70% of what it was so the advert that you may have used before may not be as effective because all the type will be slighty smaller. Also all the free line entries will be at the back of the book in...

Gold Trowel 6 week City & Guilds Qualification including a Krend (Rendering) Certific

I went on a weeks course 6 years ago, started on my own straight after it and haven't looked back since. I'd consider myself on a par with any other plasterer, and a damn sight better than a lot of them. This trade is not the mystery people make it out to be, afterall you need no certs to go and...

Dont know how you lot do it

Oh well, just one of those things on the first one. The second one, when a client tells you the price that previous plasterers have just quoted, she is going to turn out to be a complete and utter t&%t, I effin hate that!!

1 coat skim to board tips needed anyone?

At £3/m might as well 2 coat it i reckon. I would like to know where it says the it can be put on in one coat, Bg don't say that and to my knowledge the standard doesn't either.

    Double Boarding Stud Wall

Just bung the first layer on top of the studs, they do not need to be cut as said, they can just sail over the studs, the firts layer is only for creating extra depth, then the top layer board a normal.

As owls said, never work for friends and family, it's a simple as that, they all take the piss, you end up losing your rag in the end. I just say i'm too busy when they ask.

£2.50 Per square, are you mugging yourself off?

100m2 at £2.50? Thats £250, unless you and a labourer can do it in a day, which i doubt going over someone elses boarding, vaulted ceilings, reveals etc.. I would walk from that one. If the builders are doing the boarding it will almost certainly by garbage. "the plasterer can sort that out"...

    Sponge Float

Some people just aren't willing to accept anything that is different. Are some people saying that it is ok to to use a sponge when you are in the crap? If sponging gives an inferior finish, it is ok to leave an inferior finish if you are in the crap? Sounds like the sponge thing works for some...

    Insurance job

I would be quoting for removing coving, overboarding, skimming, re coving it, and decorating it afterwards. No need for a joiner to do the boarding. Insurance work is a good chance to actually make some decent money for change. Normally the insuarnce company agree to the price, pay the home...

    Speed ?

While there is no real requirement for plasterers to have any sort of qualification to do domestic work we are gonna be grafting our behinds off for ever more. There are far too many fly by night plasterers working for peanuts for my liking.
  24. B

    Speed ?

If I am working domestics, depends on what sort of job it is, more often than not big hits aren't always possible in a 2 bed semi skimming a box room, so just take it steady, get you price right and your fine. It's about quality not about how many empty bags you have at the end of a day. I'm...

    Render over render

Hi, Been asked to render an area of about 10m2 over existing render. The exisitng render is completely sound, the bloke just don't like the finish. He after a smooth render. It has a couple of corners. I was going to scutch the area for a key, sbr, and 5;1 mix on top. Will this be ok? Cheers

crap price but thousands of m2

They will still expect a decent job to be done no matter what the price is. If there are plenty of good runs to go at and your labourer is decent, flattening down, beading, (turning up for work!!!) etc.. you'd be able to knock plenty out in a day. Good luck
