Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

Yeah, I agree, but half the people on here act like it's a disease! Bunch of know it all's if you ask me!

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

Some of the people here are actually stuck up pr*cks. Never met snob tradesmen before. Must be southerners!

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

To everyone who's wrote a sensible reply here, Thanks. I hope I can get a "real plasterer" to show me how to do it properly. Until then, as I said earlier, I'll work for friends and relatives and practice as much as possible. hopefully I'll be able to call myself a skimmer in a few years time...

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

I don't think plastering is a piece of p*ss, i think getting muck on a hawk is a piece of p*ss

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

Can I just ask, what is there to learn about putting muck on a spot board and putting muck on a hawk and getting it off again with a trowel? Apart from not dropping it, it's hardly rocket science is it!

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

practice at home, work for friends/relatives and hope that word spreads. Assuming that all the 'real plasterers' won't employ anyone who's ever done a dreaded course.

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

Or you could do 6 weeks for 1700 quid and get a city and guilds 6217-04 in plastering covering the following units: 016 Repairing a patch in a plastered wall 065 Boarding and setting a ceiling in one coat 066 Applying a floating coat to wall and attached pier 067 Applying & finishing the...

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

That would be great, someone actually giving you that chance, but when there's no jobs, you're 29 and have no previous experience then it doesn't really leave many options does it.

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

Fair enough, but like I said, everyone has to start somewhere. And besides, everyone's always telling me how they love that we go in and **** up a job and they get paid to sort it out.

Why does everyone loath coursers so much?

Simple question. Everyone has to start somewhere and there's not much work about for labourers/plasterers mates at the minute. With a lot of people being made redundant there's a lot of funding about for courses. So what's the big problem?

    Anyone got any labouring work?

    Anyone got any labouring work?

Anyone got any labouring work coming up late august in the Staffordshire area? Done a short course and now need the teachings of a decent plasterer. I'm hard working and not after a great deal of money, just experience and someone who'll show me the ropes. Cheers

What do I need to do to be a plasterer

I'm only jacking with you anyway. I have only done a weeks course, I admit it, and I would never call myself a plasterer yet. But I can do the basics and I'm enjoying it, so I'll just work my way up from there. Hopefully one day I'll be good at it, if not then tough t*ties!

What do I need to do to be a plasterer

Ha, I love hard work, that's what you get from working in an office for 12 years, when you finally get out you realise what you've been missing! I reckon some of you are just scared of us nicking your work cause you've slogged away for 40 years. ;D

    One coat or two?

So basically everyone agrees that 2 coats give a better finish than 1 but sometimes it doesn't mattter (like in little cupboards). And I should also wear a wolly hat when working outdoors. Thanks ;D

What do I need to do to be a plasterer

judging by what people say here, you need to labour for at least 42 years, listen with at least 3 ears for 29 hours per day and then pretend you're a plasterer for another 108 years then you might be ready to patch up a 3inch square hole in someones bedroom. Personally I'm just gonna keep...

    Is Plastering for Me?

Nah, it will give him the excuse to buy the bike that my old dear hasn't let him buy for the past 15 years!

    One coat or two?

So I'm thinking your into 2 coats then?

    Is Plastering for Me?

I'm 29 and I've just done a weeks course, I'm gonna do another weeks course soon. And basically I'm just gonna keep plastering my old man's garage until I get it right. Not really bothered how long it takes to learn so long as I get there in the end. Just got to find someone take me on and let...

    One coat or two?

I've got a few mates who are general builders (not full time plasterers). They keep telling me how they only put one coat of skim on and it's just as good a finish as two coats. Personally I reckon it's b******* but I'm only just starting to learn so what does everyone else think?

    Plastering Onto Brick???

I know, that's why I asked the right way to do it. And now I've done it the right way. I think ;D

    Plastering Onto Brick???

Jesus, these threads go on and on don't they. It's my garage wall. It's practice. I haven't skimmed it. I've bonded it. Thanks to the first person who told me what I needed to do. Cheers
  26. T

    Plastering Onto Brick???

Yeah, that's why I don't know sh*t yet. I didn't try to skim it though, that's why I asked first. Trouble is, there's no one to get a job with right now to learn from.
  27. T

    Plastering Onto Brick???

Do you price in your humour then or does that cost extra?? ;D
  28. T

    Plastering Onto Brick???

Oh well, thanks for the help anyway. Just gonna bond it today and skim it tomorrow now instead. No money in the job at all. It's for my old man. Practice wall in the garage! ;D

    Plastering Onto Brick???

Damn, there goes my "quick job"! So will I still need the bonding agent first?
  30. T

    Plastering Onto Brick???

Can anyone give me some advice on plastering onto brick? I've got a wall to do, it's bare brick that's been painted over with gloss. If I paint it with plaster bonding agent first can I skim straight onto it or would I need to put bonding on first? Cheers Turk
