Can anyone give me some advice on plastering onto brick?

I've got a wall to do, it's bare brick that's been painted over with gloss. If I paint it with plaster bonding agent first can I skim straight onto it or would I need to put bonding on first?

Cheers

you could put a nice coat of thick skim on first (after bonding agent} and when this sets and has heat in it skim it as normal this will be quicker than with bonding as the skim sets quicker

dont see the point in that really you need the bonding plaster for the strenth skim is not designed to be put on thick it hasnt got the same aggrgate in it to hold up im not saying it wontwork but thats why we have backing plasters you could put cement in the bonding coat an you can skim that 1hr later

skim is very strong mate youd be surprised let a bucket set and knock it out and see how strong i agree not to do it all opver a house but a wall to finish quick its the way forward as for putting cement in bonding doubt wether b.g would recomend that so either way its a cock up

How about dabbing it? or is there not enough money in the job? or if theres a decent key when you wba it or gypbond it or you could always use a sbr slurry you could just use hardwall it sets alot quicker than bonding.

Oh well, thanks for the help anyway. Just gonna bond it today and skim it tomorrow now instead.

No money in the job at all. It's for my old man. Practice wall in the garage! ;D

Sand blast wall then WBA Wall then fix mesh to it apply bonding coat the build a 4 inch block wall in front tank with thero seal top with 2 coat sand and cement then leave for 8-9 months then skim should be ok but no grantee!

Yeah, that's why I don't know sh*t yet. I didn't try to skim it though, that's why I asked first. Trouble is, there's no one to get a job with right now to learn from.

Jesus, these threads go on and on don't they.

It's my garage wall. It's practice. I haven't skimmed it. I've bonded it. Thanks to the first person who told me what I needed to do.

Cheers

If it's a practice wall, why not practice doing it properly? I don't see much sense in practicing it the wrong way!!

I know, that's why I asked the right way to do it. And now I've done it the right way. I think ;D
