    Phenolic or EPS

The house already has a 70mm bead filled cavity, so adding 50mm K5 will bring u value down to 0.21 which is well improved on building regs. 50mm would suit me well but I am just not sure why phenolic doesn’t always get good reviews?

    Phenolic or EPS

For EWI, I have heard people say phenolic board such as Kooltherm K5 can have problems and EPS is a cheaper and better product, is there any truth to this? Do any of the render systems approve phenolic, I know STO for example try to push the supply of their own boards which are EPS. I have a...

Another question for you’s, would you fit frame seal beads to all the windows and doors? We aren’t using EWI, we’re rendering direct to blockwork. Been told a frame bead is a good detail to stop render cracking around window/door joints

Think you’ve taken me up wrong mate, def not going cheap. Just wanted to know if the joints along every board in the ceiling need to be taped, also how many screws per board roughly should the boarders be putting in, so I can keep an eye it’s being done right. I have got the house to first fix...

I kept getting a message at the top of my screen to put a post in this section, thought it would unlock my account.. We are going with skim coat to block work walls and plasterboard ceilings on inside of the house, is there much to consider for that or is it all just bog standard stuff? Do we...

Hi just registered as I’m self building two houses and looking for advice regarding render, started a new thread (albeit in the wrong section lol) and found it very useful so far. Just need my profile unlocked now so that I can post without mod approval! New thread is here...

    Jub Nano or STO Lotusan

Thanks mate, I have already spoken to Declan from STO and he put me on to a couple of their applicators. I can buy Jub from the mainland, but don’t know if I’ll get an approved installer. Would that put you off? Maybe there’s no point if Nano isn’t going to be suitable anyway.

Only problem for me, is that JUB isn’t readily available in Northern Ireland and I will struggle to get an approved applicator. Whereas STO is no problem (likewise K Rend/Weber/Parex if I don’t go the Nano route)

Thanks for the replies so far, good info there @Rigsby . So would silicone thin coat be your choice on this job? And avoid nano? I can’t buy STO materials myself so it is def working out the most expensive, is it worth the premium? I haven’t actually seen it before, but heard good things. All...

Hi, I have built a new house which is now ready for render. It's in a high rain area, extremely close to trees, and other houses nearby have a lot of red algae. So I want a render with the best resistance to these elements and also one which is resistant to cracking. The substrate is 10N...
