Hi just registered as I’m self building two houses and looking for advice regarding render, started a new thread (albeit in the wrong section lol) and found it very useful so far. Just need my profile unlocked now so that I can post without mod approval!

New thread is here -https://www.plasterersforum.com/threads/jub-nano-or-sto-lotusan.77257/#post-1288971

I am building by direct labour so acting as main contractor and all going well so far. Great getting advice on here as specialist render is something that seems to have endless variations and the potential for a few pit falls if wrong product is used or it’s put on by cowboys!

so what else you wanna know?

I kept getting a message at the top of my screen to put a post in this section, thought it would unlock my account..

We are going with skim coat to block work walls and plasterboard ceilings on inside of the house, is there much to consider for that or is it all just bog standard stuff? Do we just scrim tape the joints at the wall/ceiling or do they need to tape every joint in the ceiling boards?

you cant just skim coat blockwork. it will need a 10mm backing coat then skim.
dont worry about scrim as tour plasterer will do all this. you wont save any money by doing that yourself

Aw I know, just want to be sure what I want so I know if any corners are being cut!

Your in serious trouble if your employing a plasterer who doesn't use scrim lol , I will assume that was a flippant example and not that your going cheap cheap which on a 2 house build suggests your jumping in blind , good luck with that and good luck to the spread cos I can see a catalogue of miss management and hassle with tying in with other trades ,, no offence and perfectly willing to advise

Think you’ve taken me up wrong mate, def not going cheap. Just wanted to know if the joints along every board in the ceiling need to be taped, also how many screws per board roughly should the boarders be putting in, so I can keep an eye it’s being done right.

I have got the house to first fix without a hiccup, through taking as much advice as possible hence signing up here where the experts hang out. I have probably come across wrong above, just looking for general advice so I know a bit more about what should be done without getting flamed

No mate , treat it as a light hearted well meant warning " for what you may recieve"
Just a gentle warning for some " attitude " you may receive , always willing to help

Rob I was reading your other thread gotta say my own personal opinion wouldn’t rule out mono couche as a option will admit myself never really liked it before and would say ocr and thincoat better option but have totally changed my mind now and gone full circle actually think mono better than thincoat

i would no use ocr, then acrylic .
why not use a complete thin coat system without making up your own spec ? carried out correctly, a thin coat system is by far the better finished job.
