    Subtle dents in render finish

Hey Guys, So I rendered one of my new build walls, and it went to plan, mostly. Essentially, I started a little late, added a bit too much plasticier and so the render took forever to harden up so I could rub it in. I ended up having to do it after dark. The wall is flat, and level, but I have...

    SBR slurry on wet wall

Has anyone done an SBR slurry on a wet wall? I've got a 100mm concrete block garage that needs to be sealed and rendered. There is pretty bad water penetration and so I am going to SBR slurry it before I scratch it. However, the weather has been really bad as of late, and the blocks have soaked...

How long to wait between 2 coats

Hey guys, Just got the scratch coat on today, 4:1 sand:cement + freeflo. How long should I wait before doing the top coat? And should I keep the render wet for a few days to aid the curing process?

    SBR vs freeflo

Aha, thanks guys. In terms of the mix, what am I looking at? A quick google revealed a 1:1:1 slurry (sharp-sand:cement:sbr) - there was no mention of water however. Doesn't the cement need water to cure? or will it draw water from the scratch?

    SBR vs freeflo

Thanks mate. Do I really need to use a harling trowel to get the slurry on? I was thinking of using my rendering trowel, get it on the walls quickly, scratch it and then get the scratch coat on. Surely, the slurry will provide enough key and hopefully the SBR will still be tacky and provide a...

    SBR vs freeflo

I have a single skin dense concrete block garage/workshop on my hands. Before doing any rendering work, the blocks would soak up a lot of water when it rained heavily and there was a lot of water penetration. I ended up rendering the interior walls with freeflo in both coats (topcoat had half...

Rendering underside of concrete lintel s/c

It's a self build. I've got a few years of skimming under my belt, still quite new to rendering though. Although I've done most of the rendering and it's looking good, it's just the lintels that are giving me issues. With that said, what I mean is a s/c mix doesn't have much suction, so it can...

Rendering underside of concrete lintel s/c

Thanks. What do you think I should do with the top coat? I would imagine that once I've laid on the top coat, and begin to flatten/darby it to remove excess, that large chunks will fall off (as was the case with the scratch coats, and I wasn't doing anything to them!). The mix was 4:1...

Rendering underside of concrete lintel s/c

That's a brill idea mate. Have you tried rend aid? P.S. how would you scud with a harling trowel? since it's underside, I would imagine a lot of it would fall off - troweling it would be better, but then the finish would be smoother - although I could just scratch it once I've laid it with the...

Rendering underside of concrete lintel s/c

Hi Guys, There are many ways of tackling this issue. I've heard gripfilling plasterboard, coat PVA onto lintel, mix PVA into s/c, meshing into scratch. I will be doing some s/c rendering onto an exterior wall with a garage lintel that will need to be rendered on the underside, and I've always...

    Bell cast and corner beads

Hi Guys, I have rendered a few walls with S&C before with good results. For my next project, I will be using bell casts above DPC, but the problem is they protrude about 20/25mm from the wall, whereas the corner beads only protrude about 10mm. Do the corner beads need to be protruding out as...
