    Is Skimming Dying out?

Which is? Perhaps you could hammer it home a bit more.

    Is Skimming Dying out?

Jointing is easier and we see lots American Females getting involved as part of normal DIY. Its ready to paint when its hard and generally more idiot friendly, which makes it popular. Plastering is more skillful as you're only getting one hit with prep & timing a big factor and of course there's...

    Is Skimming Dying out?

I don'the doubt it DCIM but the point was made that drywall somehow unravels after 5 years. I was simply adding context

    Is Skimming Dying out?

The US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand most of Europe have been using drywall for decades? Never heard anyone saying that drywall needs redone after 5 years? Then again some plastering(Skim) can look tired after a few years too if not prepped right.

    Is Skimming Dying out?

If skimming is Dying out its Dry lining that's the man cause. Here's a video of an "Easifill" partition erected, Jointed and Painted 8 hours. Not a very big partition but even so painting the same day is a big thing.

    Bedroom Wall/Ceiling Chimney Damp

IMHO Sounds like it could be condensation. Which means increase ventilation and warm the area of wall by heating or insulating. At the moment it could be a cold bridge.

    Is Skimming Dying out?

    Is Skimming Dying out?

If its good enough quality for a 7 Star :-) Hotel then it must be good enough for yer average 2 up 2 down :-) Another factor I think is relevant also is Architects prefer a more open sanded finish which decorates better and easier. Some Spreads polish too much and Marbelize their skimm to...

    Is Skimming Dying out?

So does it also not follow from this.......... to say "Skimming is a s**t job compared to a top class Tape & Jointing job"? At the end of the day there are going to be both good and bad Plasterers, Jointers and Fixers.

    Is Skimming Dying out?

I think the main thing is what is or what is becoming the handiest(or cheapest). If you "Nap" up sand cement render indoors you can get it brave and smooth. On one job in Berlin we worked for a land lord who was just re-furbing and re-renting 1000 sq meter blocks of apartments at a time and he...

    Is Skimming Dying out?

I have worked in various places/countries and most of Europe for example stopped using skim a long time ago. Ceilings are generally MF laying grid or Dry lined. Walls are generally one coat machine plaster or else (like many refurb's) ready mixed Sand cement usually out from a machine...
