Blue grit controls the suction for me fine. The green plasprime doesn't in my experience. Artex sealer is your best bet. Or get another spread to help you

Mines 2 metres long made out of 8x2. Made to my height my backs been fine ever since. The metal hop ups where always too high for me and I can pull out much further on mine. It's great for coving too
