Hi , new to forum. The above pic is in my new extension. It has been correctly built with double skinned block and insulation. Everywhere apart from the dab marks has dried perfectly. It was boarded and skimmed 6 days ago. I am getting concerned because the damp spots don't seem to be getting any drier each day. They fade a bit throughout the day and then come back damper overnight . Any comments or advice appreciated. Thanks Andy

You need to bear in mind the adhesive is behind the plasterboard and needs to dry. So it has to go through the plasterboard and finish it's not a quick process. Get a dehumidifier in. I agree with @jeanclaudevangyproc it doesn't look the best to be fair regard the amount of dabs

I would be concerned if i was you, if its getting damper over night they look like cold spots and if this is happening at night when its colder you have problems.

I don't think that there should be an issue with damp, it is a brand new extension all built to building regs. My builder is away this week but the plasterers here doing rendering on outside . I asked him and he said it would just take time to dry. He did say today that the block work was a bit rough on the outside wall he was rendering , gaps in mortar. Don't know if that may have anything to do with it? I've been painting in there today and dots faded to next to nothing. Just been down to look now , 22:50 and they are back just like this morning. Really need to paint before kitchen fitted , but don't want to in case there is a problem with the build. He's a really reputable builder tho and I'm sure everything has been done correctly

Your new wall be as good as the substrate. D&D will act like a bridge if you have a damp coming from the back wall and that is very hard to predict. I see you trust your builder and hope he won't take it wrong if you ask him why the d&d is drying and then getting wet again.

And the change of colour shows the moisture travel between the external and internal wall and has very little to do with d&d drying .

I've had this loads of times, just the dabs drying out. You can paint it, you will cover it no problem with a good quality paint e.g Dulux Diamond Matt.

I misread that actually your building is still damp could be a problem with the damp proof course your best bet is get a dehumidifier in there dry them out. If all fails yours next point is to address the damp proof you may need to inject.

What insulation did you use between the cavity?

If its celotex the foil backing will prevent moisture coming through, if its loft insulation it will suck moisture like a sponge and disperse it wherever possible also the suction on the block will drag it out.

Dabs to take a while to dry but of its getting darker at night I might be concerned, it should get lighter and lighter by the day.

What will injecting do? I thought your first comment on this thread about painting with gloss was stupid but this is worse.

Guys just to clear injecting wont do anything on a cavity wall, injection of dpc is intended for solid walls

It's obvious there's a little bit of damp coming in somewhere if the building was built with rain constantly hitting it it's going to take time out drying. It's probably nothing hence why I said get a dehumidifier in first .. Spots are coming through stronger at night as it's colder.
As for the paint situation you prove me wrong it doesn't work !! if there was anything to worry about the spots would give like a white salty substance on the board. Then I'd be worried.
Ye injecting would be pointless that's me jumping into answers without reading it properly.
Sand and cement takes about eight months to dry out why it baffles when used in a damp proof course

Facials and fibreglass roofing system on Before boarding and plastering done. Insulated with celotex. Roof lantern not complete yet, just covered with polythene so probably getting cold in there at night which might not be helping drying

roof insulated with celotex what about the walls?

Id put it down to some damp left in the blocks as it stands then at the moment, as said get a de humidifier and monitor it for a week. Leave doors and windows open during the day if possible to encourage air flow and when everyone has left shut everything up, get any buckets of water etc out the room and wack the de humidifier on.

If you have anything in the room containing fluid and the de humidifier is on it'll suck that out so as said empty the room out and shut doors and windows otherwise it wont work at its best.

Thanks for all the advice . I think the consensus is that it's damp from the block and it will take a bit longer than I would like for it to dry - I'm just very impatient !

Talk about panicking the poor fella..andy its f**k all its just ur dots drying out ive done 100s and 100s of houses and dots always show thru till its Dry dont worry about it..id be more worried about the dots the spread has used tbh as he's gone thick to get over ur plumbing pipes and with the look of it he's used hardly any gear..damp lol talk about scaring the poor fella
