Agree with Rossi lodan after a year it will be ok , you got to consider the fact you have gone from a none manual job to full time manual work and it takes it's toll no matter how much of a superman some may think they are.. It's the main reason I made the effort to make that speed skim work for me to totally change the wrist action and strain on fingers, hands, joints, ligaments and muscles, this era of plasterers have all the tools available to not be f**k up by the time we are 50 so take advantage of them.

I tell you now he been trying to hard , we all been there he got the job side sorted and now has been trying to become super area spread , ibrofen and easier gauges, plus less booze. Also to many deadlines to hit so to much pressure to do to much every day... Look at the diary move some of the jobs back and spread out the flow.

I was about to start a new thread similar to this.
Been very busy recently and over the last couple weeks I'm waking up with my right hand clenched into a fist.
It's like all the tendons have contracted. I have to almost prise my hand open. Fingers sort of pop back into place.
Obviously I realise this is to do with plastering but I have had this before when I used to do groundworks/landscaping. Difference is that then it just got to a certain point and then just went away.
This though is getting worse every day.
I laid off the trowel today and just boarded to give the hand a rest but wondering what else can be done.
Looked on the Nhs website, could be summat called "trigger finger". Anyone else had this?
Worried that it's going to lay me up and I can't afford that, especially as I've been getting a lot of opportunities recently.
Any advice appreciated.
No wanking jokes though.

Avoid wanking! It can lead to mental numbness and physical harm. Wait until you have full control and can trust your hand.

It might sound daft but try and even out the work your hand/wrist/arm/shoulder put in. It's easy to overuse one part and put a big strain on it. Just try and stay aware of it while you work.
Sounds like you grip the trowel too hard. Try and let the trowel do the work.

Try and keep your hands dry and your trowel handle dry, maybe wear gloves to give you a better grip so your not gripping to much. I had it years ago, my hand would lock but doesn't happen as much now apart from when it's cold and I'm rendering. It will also be because your only just starting out so your gonna feel it till your body gets used to it.

That's spot on advise as well you have seen the worn down tops of my old trowel handles one of many reasons the hands lock up .. Might sound stupid but I also think it's the small things like cleaning out buckets that have to have a really good scraping because they are in a state and even on the plasterboard side of work using blades that ain't near enough new fucks up the hands because you have to grip harder and push harder to do cuts.

I bought a Milwaukee mini reciprocating saw for cutting boards. Using Stanley's over and over would flare up the elbow so thought I'd give it a go. Piss easy. Let the tools do the work (y)

If it's carpal tunnel syndrome you can buy a brace to wear at night. It separates the tendons and the warmth keeps the blood flowing. Also stay away from the 5 fingered widow

He has been work, work work as well ..I'm sure it's doing to much in general , the buzz of getting jobs done , making money and people saying oh thanks is the satisfaction of the job we all do it makes it worth it..but then the body just tells us " oh I ain't okay with all this " and it's hard to listen to yourself when it's boom boom ,buzz buzz.. The head is saying Go go and the body saying No.

Have you been finger bashing ??
Honestly its worse than wanking lasts forever some nights.

Your body will get used to it .
Im 37 my shoulders ache for first hour of the day.....once warmed up im fine.
The doctor will only tell you too rest.
Its not your left arm so its not your heart..
I remember years ago the pains now its just a mental problem.
Stick at it.
Never had numbness but ive had cramp in right arm in the night.....pushing myself 2 much.

I had this problem and when it got worse I had cortisone injection into my hand (about four years ago) and started taking glucosamine, cod liver and multi vits everyday. Fingers are still a little clicky but not as bad. I agree with chinny, wear gloves and keep hands dry [emoji106]

Give the @Speedskim a work out on flattening yer coats instead of the trowel as most on ere will say saves lot of repetitive straining especially when yer on the trowel all day
