So , established that he is taking the p### , so just to answer my original question - how many m2 should an experienced plasterer be able to cover in an 8 hour period.

If the works not awkward or crap just incentivise him with some pricework if you feel your not getting value for money from him on daywork, ( which on 11m2 a day your not).
Somepeople will keep turning up and doing nowt till you run out of money, how can anyone budget a job on that basis.

Does the 11m2 include any openings? If its 11m2 without openings I.e doors/windows sounds about rite

That's y I very rarely work off day rate as its impossible to get motivated for me as I've been price all my life if I'm on day rate it feel

This is y I very rarely do day work..price work all day long for me don't get me wrong il take a bit of day rate now and again if I need to recharge my battery's and my tools need cleaning etc

OK, on a serious note I'm calling this one.

The OP has been asked repeatedly what the work is and/or to supply pics. He's been back on and viewed the thread repeatedly, even repeating his question, yet not even hinted at answers.

Therefore I can come to one of two conclusions:-

1) The OP is taking the p1ss not the plasterer.
2) The OP is a plasterer and wants to know what he 's expected to get on in a day.

So with those in mind @enerG I think you should either come clean or jog on.

Thanks again for all the response. I believe in a "fair wage for a fair days work." To summarise , would say 2 bags a day (20m2 ish) for £150 be fair.

To summarise your trying to get someone on a day rate to save money trying to be cost effective and as you have no idea what you are doing then your not getting any benefits from it.
Ask for a price, agree a price, get the work done, pay up and kamzonkkk.....job finished.

So to summarise again that is what happens when you want to pay someone a day rate.

I'll only ever do a day rate if it's a builder who gives me regular work or I'm getting a decent amount of wedge for doing a average days graft.
Otherwise why would someone work for less than what they could earn elsewhere?

I'm going with No 2

Hi All

Please can anyone advise on average , how many m2 an experienced plasterer can cover in an 8 hour day , skimming on plasterboard.

This is for one man , including mixing , scrimming and very minor preparation.

Reason I ask , I had a plasterer on a day rate and he is doing on average 11m2 per day.

Thanks guys

EnerG
Give him 2 of these..it's advanced me from 1 bag a day to 2..tomorrow I going to try for 3...could I ask as well what is the 'MINOR' preparation?
Thanks Vince

11m may have been a busy day compared to his usual 8m.
Tortoise yesterday on 8m
The hare today on 11m.

Update!
Politely asked my plasterer this evening how may more days? "Tuesday" he said (thats 7 days to cover less than 50m2) I told him if he wanted to do any more work in future I would like a price. He's now took the hump and asked to be paid to date, which I was more than happy to do.

Looking for a replacement now!

There's two sides to every story and something does'nt add up here.If he was going to be finished Tuesday you could have left him alone for the sake of a few pound. You would'nt put up any photos or details of the work involved, and i did'nt hear any complaints about the quality of work.As the other guys said piss off.

would be good to see photos of what they have been doing

You agreed a price as a day rate presumably with no specification on m2 to be done ? If guys clambering round you n yer stuff each day doing a good clean n tidy job then whats the prob??you may well of ended up paying that on a price and the guy blitzing the place not paying much attention to finish or site. But i guess you"d still be looking for more for less.
Guess you question yer dentist , solicitor, local shop , garage etc ?? Doubtful !!somehow trades who have learned their skills over yrs like all the others are up for pulling apart, very odd.

This thread wins the Internet today. Also, any spread still on site after 3 is doing it wrong.

We went to a new site yesterday and during induction the site agent said if we wanted to work after 5 we could, then he remembered we were plasterers and actually said never mind that bit. 5pm!? Oh how we laughed

Well if it helps I've just been laid off for being to slow.

Skimming between 30 - 40 m2 per day on day rate of £70 various backgrounds

Admittedly bit pissed off
