Right...

i have a spot board and stand but I feel it just gets in the way. Anyway the question is....working out the bucket whilst skimming, does multi go off quicker than if I was using a spot and stand.

i only used the spot and stand once then have worked out the bucket since so have now at to compare.

Shouldn't make any difference, I only use a spot when floating other then that I always work out of a tub

It should set a bit faster but only if its sitting there a while, I like the board and stand and labourer way..

every job is different. if we are using one bag a time then the board and stand. we use the tub if we want three or four bag mix a time.

Yes is found it easier with spot and stand but in some scenarios it's difficult.

Got or quite a big room to do next week so I will use the spot stand.

Was as just curious about it going off quick that's all

I think it's because you get fresher mixes on a spot luke, if you're putting a couple of bags in a large tub it'll set faster

I just can't imagine skimming out 2 bedrooms and a cupoard in one go and carrying around a tub, scooping it out with a bucket trowel. Fek that.

I have a 75ltr bucket thats good for a 3 bag mix it sits on a wheeled trolley so its always within reach and I use a mac scoop to bale it out. the scoop holds a hawk full at a time, no heavy lifting no bending and no walking back and forward to the spot.

Im doing a bedroom with a ceiling and to date this is going to be the largest I've done by myself so I'm just wanting to prep right and be set out correctly so i don't get caught out.

i see a lot of people saying yeh yeh I skim a room and I'm down the pub by 1pm. I just don't see how it's possible. I must be super slow.
I just can't see how you could do such a big hit. I'd struggle just to slap it on the wall that quick let alone flatten, mix up second batch, slap on and flatten then trowel.

Don't worry mate im shite toooo!!!!!!

I think everyone after a few yrs gets paranoid about how much they can put on compared to others....then a few years after that you stop giving a fooook and realise that unless your on site having to realy smash it out its more important to price well in the first place, be clean and leave the room flawless...

In a weeks time when there painting they wont care or remember how long it took you when it looks mint and are singing your praises...but they will definitely remember and notice a rushed job!!!

Just put radio on and think about food and porn works for me!!!!

Nothing wrong with your back, you cant bend down because you've got a hard on!

Nobody will phone you to ask will you plaster there next job cos they've heard you are fast.
Wet your spot board regularly and keep your hand board, trowels wet and clean and it will be second nature. All the best.

Skimming 2 bedrooms and a cupboard in one go.
Do you do that all by yourself?
Yea. Id be happier if ther was no cupboard. Normally semi-detached so bedrooms aren't that big. Having the right tools is have the job. Whats a mac scoop, sounds like its worth a look

Yeh tbf what I do is just try and earn xxx a day. Then I'm happy. If it's an awkward job or a bit of silly prep to do I will charge a tiny bit more.

i don't care about being that fast, I just like leaving the job nicely finished and clean.

I think you're right yeh...people just say they can plaster massive amounts to show off.

I will keep everything wet and clean and use my best mate pva haha

No they can plaster large amounts, I don't know why you're getting you're nickers in a twist and there is a benefit to being fast they do the same amount, charge the same and there home earlier .......... I think we all like that

Actually youll find quite a few people will ring if you've a reputation for being quick, most builders as a rule are always behind. So having spreads who can claw them some time back on a programme is worth a premium. While being that slow you get a council tax bill isnt always a good thing regardless of how tidy they think they are.

im slow... but rough.... 2 bedrooms and a cupboard in one hit on your own.... bollox...to that... remember plasterers are the biggest lying fukers in the building trade.. if u put 8 bags on, they put 9 on..lol

lol ur right there, pub talk. I wouldn't put on 2 bedrooms and a cupboard on in one go. I meant 1 day. split the rooms up as normal. Do it in 2 big lifts. Can only do what the boss wants.

Yes get the board wet. keep the place clean. Do what you feel confortable with. Better to take your time and do it right
