Ok guys. What van do you drive? Always a lover of Transits. Test drove a 2.2 front wheel drive one, the other day. Drives like a car. Not a lover of midi vans. Vans should fit 8x4 sheets in.MPG is a massive factor nowadays, but nobody tells you what they do with vans.

Would love a pair of seats in back for kids. Could use it for holiday then and stick kids and dog in back,
 
I've a Nissan primastar ,got a lot of bad press but I've had it from 07 as new and not had one problem other than a **** drove into me head on 3 weeks ago in a vw transporter ,his van was knackered and I drove away after I kicked the **** out of him ,clown was stoned

we put seats in the back of our transit,, only problem was when getting in to the back the people tend to put their hand in front passenger door to help them in by using pillar to pull on, twice the front passenger has shut the door while back passenger had his had on pillar,, obviously this was not to bad as they were only plasterers,, would hate it to happen to a child,,sure you could fit a handle in the back to use to pull yourself up
 
i had the transit that went from 00 up to 06 swb was a great van my brother has a renault traffic 07 he never had a bother with it and he dont be good to it

Primastar ,traffics and vivarios are all the one just badged up to different companies

To be honest I dont think you can go wrong with transit....

If I was to be back on the tools a transit would be high on my list... cheap parts and also scrapyards have tonnes of them :)

i know friend of mine says opel is the cheapest with the parts in ireland

Probably right plaster man ,I've heard a few horror stories but it doesn't matter what the make of van or manufacturer if you get a bad one your bunched

Funny isn't it that scrap yards being full of them is for some reason a good thing :RpS_lol:
 
Only ever had Merc vans, and I love them. There bullet proof and customer service is brilliant.
Yesterday I ordered a another sprinter with all the trimmings, just have to wait till the new year for delivery, can't wait!
They will give you a van to try out for a few days, then you'll be converted.

lol true but the availability of parts is good and ready :D

You hardly need parts for a transit as they are pretty bulletproof mechanically. Problem is the body work, been told my transit won't pass another mot, serviced through dealer and never any problems. They rust like hell, last one was the same.

I was under this illusion until I got mine 3 months ago, bought it knowing that it would need 2 under sills welding..

Well mot has come round and I get a phone call from the mechanic telling me it's basically scrap!!

Telling me it needs £1k spending on it on welding!!

Now I know they rust like fook but from the last MOT 12 months ago having not one advisory to this year it needs pretty much a whole new underbelly is just a fckin joke!!

I had fords for 20 years, but ill never go back to a transit again the body work on them after about 5 years is a disgrace. As for them being bulletproof is a load of balls the diesel pumps are made of chocolate, wait till you stick one of those on every few years along with the washer pump. Add premature clutch/flywheel failure. There are few big companies using transits any more aa rac sky bt all seem to be in vauxhalls mercs or vws.

Yeah not looking forward to the clutch going as it's dual mass flywheel so not just the clutch that I have to replace!! Will be £600+ job :(

About £1500 for a diesel pump change if your lucky cos whats the point of fitting a used one to have it happen again !
 
So wtf do people bang on about trannys being the best van ever and are bullet proof?

Exactly. I acquired a primastar 2.5 diesel last month for a good price but the engine is knackered. The lad who owned it drove through some flood water and the engine hydraulic'ed. The interior and body work are spot on but, getting an engine for it is gonna take a while cos they are like rocky horse sheite cos as i'm finding out the scrap yards are not full of them :RpS_lol: any how i'm in no hurry for one and will wait till i get one at the right price.

TBH i hate recommending out cos basically whatever you buy will only be as good as it has been looked after if you get me drift. Transits have always been renowned rust boxes and when buying one you have to get under them and have a good look. If you have money laying about bide your time and only buy when your happy with whatever. Look out for old post office vans i.e. look for the auctions or sales direct from them also peep's like dhl etc ask about and see if anybody knows anyone who works for dhl etc as a fitter and get some insider info on whats on offer. Then do all the reading you can on tinternet. And finally good luck and remember the golden rule buyer beware....

As with everything, you need to be looking at the long term cost. Look back over the last 3 and 5 years accounts and add up every penny your van has cost you. Include everything other than diesel in your sums, then divide that by 36 and 48, and you'll probaly find you can be driving something new, and chopping it in when the warrenty expires for the same money. Sorting your own money rather taking the dealers makes it much more affordable to.

I always buy new transits,[possibly through mis guided loyalty] if your only keeping them 3-4 years youll have no issues.
