The best advert I ever run was in a local magazine... cost me £65 and I got tonnes of work from it but not only that the women who created the mag, her husband was a property developer (yes @imago) and so I got in with him and we both made good money Then one day I said I was leaving for the south coast and he said yeah me too... funny we both quite near each other

If you run any advert you need to give it 6 months at least so people get use to seeing it

I had some builders like that... but the pricing and domestic bit is the bit I liked Also the builders would pretty much pay day money where domestic was way way way better

That's pretty much the way earning money works. You can have 'easy money' by taking the no hassle no approach effort where someone else sorts everything out and you get paid a 'wage'. Or, you can put more effort in, do a lot of running around and organising to get more money.

Do more = earn more.
Do less = earn less.

You'd be surprised though at the number of people who want more but expect someone else to have everything (including the work) organised for them.

I do enough to earn enough lol. I could earn a million pound tomorrow and someone will want a million and 1 of me .

Yes, well sort of. I say sort of because although he's up for the work the customer decided they'd sort their own window supplier/fitter because they're having some custom made aluminium framed 'Grand Designs' bollox. So instead of being fitted in November they aren't being fitted until the 25th of January as they have to be made in Never Land by specially trained Pandas.

That's put us back by two months plus as we couldn't take the back walls out and leave them with sheets of ply over the Christmas and New Year. Which in turn has put the plastering back by three months or more. It also means that it'll have to be done in two hits so that we can get the extension rooms sorted before we start on the garage conversion work.

Not a great start for the first job he'll be ding for me. I wouldn't blame him or be surprised if he told me to shove it, even though it's totally out of my control.

All that said, he's a firm that turns up with four or five blokes to get it knocked out quick. I'm not sure how he'll work out with smaller bits as they might not be worth his time? It's not an easy thing to find reliable trades that do quality work.

It's always surprising (on here and in the real world) how many say they're looking for work or unhappy where they are, but it goes VERY quiet when you say you have work.

yup... also when you organise days out.... you need to organise more days out and when you do the response is so low that you wonder if you should do another....
