I've used wickes pva for years myself and always found it ok, tried the b&q one once and never again.

I mix it 2-1 and give the walls a good coat then as its just going tacky i like to give it a tight second coat so the walls get a nice white colour and pretty tacky. Never had a problem since i found my own little OCD pva method.
 
I always prime with a 5/1 then 3/1, no problems,the 5/1 coat acts like a wash coat when painting,keying to the substrate for the 3/1 to take to,50/50 doesn't soak into all substrates and can create a skin on the surface whitch can delaminate.:RpS_thumbup:

its ok kreigh its just me being sarky as everyone including the suppliers so obviously correct advise 5/1 followed by 3/1 but I feck that off and just always do 1 coat of 50/50 and then let totally dry first....

not aimed at you bud its just me saying nahhh not for me:RpS_thumbup:

No probs mate,the majority of plasterers and builders i do work for use 5050,but that wasnt the way I was taught,each to their own I suppose:RpS_thumbup:

il be the first to admit its not the text book correct way and if I was to tell a new apprentice how to apply I would quote the tubs. But if doing myself I will just wack on the 1 coat at 50/50 that said I only buy cheap pva anyway so theres a hight water content to start with.

I doubt I would attempt to use so such as original unibond brand is this manner etc.

I'm gonna pick some of the micro up this week. Couple of quick questions as I've never used it..

How long after applied can you skim on it ? and do you apply it neat or water down a little ?

Micro doesnt go on as nice as kontakt if there is paste residue. Micro dries quicker than kontakt and both kill suction very well too. I put some kontakt over distemper walls recently and it was excellent soaking into the background and not drying out too quckly.
I like them both for all surfaces but kontakt just edges it.
Have you used micro over distemper steve?

And it stops distemper from peeling ?
we are doing a house at the min ,costs un important but I'm on day works anyway, the ceilings were painted previously but was not allowing the pva to soak ,the paint was scrape able and that's what we did ,scraped every square inch off,

Yes john works fine and when dry (best next day) is adhered well and skims a treat.
If i dont have kontakt then use stabilising solution.
