HI ALL
I AM AN INTERIOR DESIGNER, PAINTER AND DECORATOR, RUNNING A PAINTING AND DECORATING BUSINESS IN THE GREATER MANCHESTER/CHESHIRE AREA OF THE UK.
I SPECIALISE IN WORKING FOR ELDERLEY /DISABLED LADIES. MY CUSTOMERS OFTEN REQUEST REFERRALS TO FEMALE PLASTERERS. BECAUSE THEY ARE OFTEN FRIGHTENED OR NERVOUS OF MEN IN THEIR HOMES (SORRY LADS) SO I AM LOOKING FOR ANY FEMALE/S SO THAT I MAY BE ABLE TO CONTRACT WORK TO THEM.
IF ANY ONE KNOWS A FEMALE WORKER, I HAVE PLENTY OF WORK FOR HER.
REGARDS
JAN ROTHWELL

Maybe if we stopped calling ourselves 'spreads' we might have more female plasterers... ;D
I do know of one, 6 foot 2, good at it too, but runs her own damp proof business and wouldnt be interested..
incidentally, ive done shitloads of work for old people, both privately and for large companies (sheltered accomodation) and ive never come across the problem you describe, sounds femenist to me. the only 'problem' ive come across (which isnt really a problem) is the fact that single old people generally get someone else to sort out the 'builders' not because theyre usually men, but because they dont feel confident dealing with people on a subject they know absolutely nothing about and are scared of being ripped off.. I dont see how being female is going to change that...in fact in my experience, females in the building trade or any trade that deals with older people are just as likely to 'rip people off' as any bloke, sometimes more so...
why do you 'specialise' in working for older/disabled ladies anyway, if you dont mind me asking?

Hi
The good thing is, now women have a choice who they employ ,unlike the past !
equality !
Regards Jan
Hi Jan, I'll bet Im not alone in saying this but Ive absolutely nothing at all against females or female plasterers, good luck to you..
thing is, this job is hard work, nothing wrong with that in itself, but how many women do you see working oil rigs? not many, for the simple reason that most women would prefer not work their asses of cos theyre women. simple. nothing wrong with being a woman. I wouldnt really want to become a florist. Plastering also puts dirty great calluses on your hands, not to mention it dries the skin horribly. Again, most women wouldnt want that..
We've had 'equality' in this country since the 1940's post 'mrs pankhurst'..
Now, please dont take my post as intentionally sexist, its merely an observation of society but my 'point' is that youve posted above that my last post confirmed your 'theory' that ladies prefer ladies. In my experience that is incorrect, in fact wildly incorrect..
Most 'women' in fact most 'people' prefer tradespeople who turn up when they say they are going to, do a decent job for a reasonable price, carry it out with decency and politeness and leave the job tidy, REGARDLESS of s*x. It just so happens that most decent tradespeople in the building trade happen to be men.
So, to refer back to my post above, what exactly is it you refer to when you say 'that is exactly why ladies prefer ladies'?
Forgive my assumptions but you seem to be 'selling' the 'ladies only' hook to disabled and elderly women. What exactly is the selling point, what makes a female tradesperson better than a male tradesperson? and if thats not sexist, what would you call it?

absolutley spot on big segs, most of use have worked in homes for the elderley disabeld, single females.did job in womens refuge in october women who had been batterd.also young offenders institutes.never had a problem or encountered any fear of males of the women and some who had good reason to fear.my some what harsh reply was the fact that i see this as somebody working an angle to further their own busines, and advertising as such.as well as actively fueling a some what misguided fear, surley these vunerable frail old ladys and disabled ladys have not reached that age having fears of bonifide tradesmen, and if not sure could get neighbours or relatives to be presant while works carried out.but then that would mean the propriater would have to compete against other tradesmen)on a level playingfield unable to play on the elderly and disabled.that makes her more a scam merchant than any tradesman that shes protecting these people from

So, are you an interior designer that has picked up a paint brush, or a painter and decorator who's been to W H Smiths and bought some interior design magazines?
I bet you go around frightening the s**t out of your 'old ladies' telling them that all tradesmen are rapists.

As intensive said , what sexist comment Jan, you should realy be carefull what you post you may truly offend some persons with that type of request, unless your a lesbian of course and you just wan't a bit off rough for your own self gratifying needs :-*
