Hardwall for tiling

How common in practice is it for tilers to use Hard wall for tiling with say 600 x 300 porcelain wall tiles.

I have a tiler an experienced tiler insisting its perfectly good. Please advice.

People have been tiling over hardwall for years it better back ground than any shiity dabbing . Same applies for s/c it's bomb proof

Better to skim and brush finish.
 
I'm talking about hardwall and skim . Surely no fukers daft enough to tile straight on hardwall it'd suck its b*ll***s of ffs
