Hi guys
since my last post on city and guilds plastering 6 week course i am now 90% certain i am going to goldtrowel to do it.gonna go down next week and have a look. has anyone else been on a course there? any input would be appreciated

Gold Trowel really are the crème de la crème - I myself went there a while back and did the 3 week NVQ L2 course, everything from the training environment to the instructors are top class. Spear headed by Andy Marshall - the guys there really give you the confidence to go out and make a go of it and even when your done and dusted, fully paid up and long gone, if any issues arise just give the center a call and someone will only be too happy to point you in the right direction - mark my words, go with Gold Trowel and you wont go wrong.

they are a good bunch of lads, the teaching there is of a very high standard...with lots of after course help too there are alot of courses out there but they are the original and in my experience the best..there are other colleges and courses out there who will take your money without any qualifications....money well spent in my book. I took a course there about 5 years back , and it certainly put me on the right track when i first started out.

Cant go wrong, There is also the one in the banner whicha re very good. They are definiately catching up with gold trowel.... you also get 10% off for being a member on here.

All the best

Danny

I did NVQ L2 course in January and really enjoyed it. Andy is a top man and so is doug. If u do the NVQ course with then, you can fast track your city and guilds.

I fancy that 6 week city&guild course aswell, sounds like the best one.
good to get the qualification but as these lads say you can't buy experience,
need to get with experienced spread after to learn about the big bad world of plastering.

I was lucky to get working with an old hand once i finished my course....this was invaluable experience....had a fair amount of help off of a few members here and on other forums as well ..there is no substitute for experience..really.....but learning from other good plasterers from their experiences can help u quicken up your learning....fast track almost...your continual knowledge in this trade. Thats why i like forums...you get pizz takers and jokers (ahem) but i think most wanna be here to get knowledge.or more importantly to pass it on....Now that is a beautiful thing...surley...and sometimes you have to pay for the knowledge...if your serious then thats a small price to pay....

you lot have just confirmed what i thought also spoke to andy today about the course, sounds mint. he told me that they have 6 * 4 metre ceilings in some of the bays which would be a great help, as i am a little apprehensive on bigger ceilings. thanks 4 replys chaps

hi everybody. i'm new on here. now i'm not a plasterer by trade i'm your arch enemy the sparks! anyway i want to learn plastering, and there's a local place near me called trade skills 4 u. does quite a few different coureses, just wondered if anyone on here new if they where any good? cheers, jay.

jay.........................................why do you always leave youre tails so long? ;D

why do you think? to p*** spreads off!!! nah only joking. uum, i always cut them a bit shorter, and tuck them inside the box. to make it easier for you guys, some sparks leave half way across the floor, just to be a pain in the arse, bu i think about u boys u see! also protects my cables from sharp trowels! lol

sharp trowels?........i smash them back into the box with my lathe hammer ;D...............go for the course mate and become a spread im sure its as good as any ::)
p.s when tails are left long why do the lads mark them right on the end so we cant cut them back?

see i was thinkin of goin back to college and gettin a job with a proper spread and all tht, and tht wud be the best route, but i wud lose so much money!!!! well u mark em on the end coz u use a pair of cutters normally to make the marks, and even very lightly using them can nick the copper inside. coz u mark em on the end, then when u terminate the switch, u cut tht off, and hey presto, no weakened copper just brand new cable.

doin me nvq2 at mo in hope of emigrating, ive been in plastering since 1986 trouble is fellow who is doin me osat is bout 22 and has a nvq3 , im not bitter but i was floating houses with s&c and skimmin em with siraphite b before he was born. and he,s making me feel like a student, pissing me right off at mo, dont make sense to me!

i know what you mean mate i know a spread who learnt plastering on site and learnt electrics in the evening ......but he ends up plastering most of the time as hes better at it plus the ongoing courses etc he only has so much time .....if you can get in wuth a decent spread one day a week and give it 5 years you should be on youre way ;)

just to let you know boys i enroled today for 6 weeks c&g course start march 9th, happy days!!
