Efflorescence plaster advice

Howdy plaster fans, quick question, we have several large patches of efflorescence on our walls in our kitchen, the plaster got damp a while back but is drying out. Now, we are actually moving out of our house and don't want the expense of hacking off the existing plaster and plastering it all from scratch again.

To keep costs down could these walls just be re-skimmed? Or is this a big no no? In the nicest possible way, we only need it to look good for say 6 months whilst trying to sell the house lol

There are specialist paints to hold off efflorescence if your only looking for a "quick fix" to sell

Look on Safeguard website. Their dryzone products etc very good I believe they do a paint that could help you out

That's nice of you, passing it on to someone else, hopefully if your buying somewhere else you also get shafted somehow

Ha, why if your selling a house spend more money than you have to? Shall I just knock £3k off the asking price just to be nice as well? And for your information, not that it makes any difference to this thread, but we are actually installing a new kitchen for whoever buys the house...what awful people we are!

What a waste as they may not like the kitchen you install, sort your problems out first, selling a property with known defects should be a criminal offence.

Again not that it's any of your business but the current kitchen is falling apart! Oh and...why do you think surveys were invented? Serious problems get flagged up, if you buy a house and go against what survey says then tough s**t!

Thanks for your constructive replies, very helpful though!

No furniture is moved in these surveys so problems easily hidden.

And no sh it your kitchen is falling apart why else is it being replaced but to get a sale. I've meet your sort before

Oh well, not my fault surveys don't pick stuff up, bought plenty of houses where surveys don't pick stuff up, just dealt with it, no big deal! Just chill a bit, if you've got nothing to contribute of any use kindly go and complain to the police or someone about people selling houses who've done a bit of decorating before they sell!

Decorating or covering up ? You asked for advice I gave it

The house I bought 5 month ago uncovering loads of bodges and problems. Much more than I expected but it's an old house and just the way it is I guess??

Haha your suggestion is something I'm definitely going to look into, as long as I don't offend the house selling moral brigade that is!
Don't listen to gps, he's a bit of a prick and no one else really listens to him on here. He posts things just to get a reaction from people, think it's called a troll nowadays.
Had a problem like this on a bathroom i skimmed, customer said salts kept appearing and was just going to put it up for sale so I phoned a damp company I do work for and he said could try wiping it all down then applying a salt neutraliser and letting that dry before painting.

That's a bit harsh isn't it. Not everyone agrees with him but his views are put across logically.

Does anyone actually take anything to heart on here anyhow?
I'm never sure who's on the blob .
I amuse myself .
Agree .
Or Disagree but infact rarely get into anything unless again amusing myself.
I like to hear what peeps are up to and there's some cracking banter and wit on here which is great distraction from the trudge of a day that may not be going so well.
Should I need or want info on summin I'd google it or ask on here no bother even if it was how to clean my teeth no matter what response .
There's always someone getting called a cu nt on here .:burlas:
Ps it's hot n sunny here yer c u n t s.:descansando:

f**k sake we are all (I'd like to think) experienced tradesmen who give s**t out and take it also on a daily basis. I think evening posts where alcohol may be consumed (guilty of it myself in the past) cause the most upset or bother?? We are thick skinned and should be able to take it as we dish enough out??

Come on, you do give the guy a hard time. The way I see it is if your big enough to dish it out your big enough to take it back.

Absolutely, rarely if ever do I get personal though. If he didn't make false claims and make things up the we would having nothing to throw at him.

I do love how he seems to have a little army of vincey sympathisers lol

I'm not a sympathiser but I do feel folk go over the top with him.

I looked at that American boxing fool posted by @algeeman .........now that bloke is an utter dick.
Charlie Zellenoff or some such......
The banter here is just that.
As for the op......brush it off mate, stabilise like @Marshy said, and then paint.
We all get it mate, you've gotta highlight the good bits as best you can and cover the bad bits......
Good luck, and welcome.
