Best look for fire place Rendered

Hello Lads

Have a fire place quite big, about 5 Msq

Going to render it with High heat resistant render.

But what is the best way to make it look ascetically pleasing, look nice basically


do you just leave the render once its been troweled up, and paint it or is there some other technique or material for a better finish.
