We're in the South Lakes area of Cumbria and have some artex ceilings that need skimming. I realise that most plasterers would rather overboard than skim directly onto artex and that's fine for all but one of the ceilings. That one is already a low ceiling and we really dont want it lowering any more than absolutely necessary. There's also another issue where the ceiling transitions into a wall in the next room where the floor level between the rooms changes. Kind of hard to explain, but disguising the edge of the overboarding would seem to be not straightforward without also doing some work in the next room's wall.
The ceilings were artexed when the house was built in the 1980s and it was applied directly to the boards ie no skim coat. It is all sound and has never seen distemper.
So if anyone out there is in the area and is interested or knows someone who might be, please let us know.
