Hawk, trowel, polyeurathane float, snips, brush, stanley knife, bucket trowel, pointing trowel, small tool and lath hammer. The only things ever in my tool bag.
K rend or weber mono? was that not the stuff the Romans used in the colleseum? lasted 2500 years (seriously, it's still there!) I aint never heard such rubbish The render inside the pyramids is still there too, over 5000 years! reckon they were onto something.
Not many punters are happy with having workman in when they come home from work but most love to have a nose around on a Saturday, and punters do love watching spreads.
Stick wood up but make sure it's bevelled or it will pull the render off when removed. Scratch coat between battens then rule off and float as usual. Following day, (2 is better) remove battens and fill in with small tool then screw a piece of the batten down the centre of your float and float...
All I would add to tonys advice is when cutting obtruse angles, place the coving on its ceiling edge and think snooker cue. Good luck the joints fill well with cove adhesive.
Little bit of plasticer in a lime mix sure does make it spread easy, no more than half a capfull though, failing that tiniest drop of, yip, you got it washing up liquid! Why break your arms eh?
No, there are many times I would use waterproofer, On thermalite blocks for instance but not for floating off. Also when pebbledashing. Trouble with waterproofer is it's at odds with all the enhanced cements, and most dust is now enhanced. It has a plasticiser in it that entrains air in the mix...
On no account should you finish plain face rendering with a trowel. Whilst it looks good green believe me it looks s**t when dried out, the water doesn't disperse and it ends up cracking. Trick with external rendering is the mix, 6 parts sand to one part cement and one part lime in equal...
We used to second coat the sirapite with board finish, it troweled up nice then, once I set some pink sirapite with a grey board finish and it looked like a type of marble.
F*****g 'ell I'm old. Sirapite b was a trick question when you phoned for trade work in the nineties, poeple would say we are fnishing with sirapite and if you said ok they would put the phone down. The answer should have been, god I aint used that for years. If I remember rightly it was...
Yes Mr Spoon, this is my third recession but the first time I've run completely dry. Xmas and all that don't help, especially for domestic work. Trouble being, take me away from my work and I somehow shrink, building sites are my natural enviroment I miss the craic and the banter and the sheer...
Hey Slippy, me and you are the new boys, 55 years between us reckon we could teach a few tricks. Remember Sirapite b? I go back all the way to Keenes cement!
When I made that £25 metre remark, I imagined every spread in the country jumping up and screaming B*******s. Tell you what, I wish someone would give me 25 a metre for unibond and skim.
Yes, I'm the clown plasterer, just a bit of fun really. Mixer broke down would you believe it and we had to leave the last few yards at the bottom unfinished. (get your excuses in early I say) It was a nightmare to float off though, had to scratch it again cos the scrach graffiti was so rough...
Hi I am Ron the builder and one of the worlds greatest bores on the subject of plastering. 30 odd years of experience in many different enviroments. Love to have fun but finding work tight at the mo. If anyone could help anything considered. https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rO4orltyxfk look...
