    Making a building habitable

We’ll see what the other 2 say. Let’s examine the evidence… Below ground, no way of digging out externally so it’s like a mini cellar. Given that, then whatever you do is a bit of a cover up as you’re on the wrong side of hydrostatic pressure. At some point, the little boy will take his...

    Sunday’s

We’re all guilty of it Holly. I think it takes time when you’re self employed to get that balance and I’m not quite there yet, but last couple of years I’ve just stopped worrying about work and enjoying a bit more time to myself. There was a time where the thought of going on holiday would...

Your post is hardly pressing when it comes to the worlds problems, so don’t over shoot .If you’re so clever, you wouldn’t need to come on to a forum to ask a ‘thick’ plasterer what to do so have some f**k**g...

    SBR not killing suction

You use what you need to use to do the job. You either factor that in to the cost of the job, or you suck it up, no pun intended.

Skimmed over bare plaster skim ceiling this week. Couple of thin coats of sbr and thin coat of pva. Like skimming plaster board.

Well if you’ve spotted there’s no bog brush, just fold and put a bit of loo roll in the pan first. Helps keep it clean :coffe:

Half block work, half old plaster

You’re only going to be able to work to the flatness of the existing wall. A speedskim is not really the same as a feather edge when you’re going for flatness with a backing coat

    Plastering over fresh plaster

Just do what you feel comfortable with, as the race is only with yourself so to speak. Don’t try and skim over bonding too early though. Just because it’s gone off doesn’t mean it’s ready for skim as you’ll get blebs, which are like large pimples that you’ll struggle to flatten. When it starts...

    Plastering over fresh plaster

stick with it…it’s fine. It takes time to break a new trowel in and bigger doesn’t equal better when you’re a beginner.

    Plastering over fresh plaster

Happened to me a couple of times and it ain’t nice tbh. The worst time was when I completely flooded my eye with plaster, so went to A and E as just round the corner. I think the clean up and the plastic gizmo they put in your eye is worse than the feeling of the plaster tbf. Most of the time...

SBR Peeling off wall (substrate and old finish)

Occasionally use it if walls are really porous but usually put on a couple of pissy coats followed by pva. Still has a bit of suction but nicely tamed.

    Asbestos concern

Well, not a total disagreement as such, but I’ve never heard of asbestos in wall paper or plaster apart from artex obviously, so I wouldn’t be concerned. If people want to get testing done, then that’s their prerogative I suppose. There are a few other areas where you might find it (old floor...

    found a lot of money

Good question. Like I said, money in a bag is a different conundrum. It’s potentially associated with being dirty and crime, and we’re programmed in that respect. I’ve never had a substantial amount of cash in my possession, so putting it in a bag in the loft doesn’t equate in my world. Tbh, I...

    found a lot of money

Money is just one way in life. Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather have more money than not enough, but like the guy he handed it back to…it was very matter of fact. He remembered enough to offer a token thank you,a reminder of his past possibly, but he had no current understanding of what that...
