Hi I have me first job in the bag and have done various jobs off me own back previously. Just ordered and waiting on the arrival of the 595+VAT moisture meter and some materials to get me going from Sovereign as they where a lot more helpful to get me started than biokil crown and no course fee! and a good rep to. But would appreciate any advice if any one has taken similar steps. Re-past experience on this matter?

how do you get this mate? i thought about this a few weeks back but never did it. i saw meters on ebay for thirty quid mate but when i did research there wasloads saying it was a scam and lads on here saying about liabilty insurance and that what do you have to do for soveren?

I have in past used a £50 pound new meter off Stanley tools and randomly tested walls when required and given customers what I thought would be best procedure for cure no come backs. But for quick rental and sale of certain property needed accreditation 30 year guarantee to satisfy banks. And was just seeking past experiences. With any one who has done this before!

Why don,t you sit the exam for Damp surveyor ,think it was CRDS , long time ago ,so not sure , i alway said it meant" can,t really do surveys " , if your going to get your arse sued , it will be with a damp meter in your hand that you don,t know how to use , not pointed at you mate , but seen it happen back in the day , best of luck with it :RpS_thumbup:

You can get full 30 yr product guarantee or a percentage of quote guarantee all work is checked by rep and full guarantee is issued after inspection. After 4 jobs of rising damp, tanking, and timber treatments your accredited.

Did not mean to offend mate :RpS_blushing: ,my Father was in the damp game for 30 years , my bother 20 years , my friend 38 years (still trading ) , it has been around me all my working life ,and still is , not an easy way to earn money , looks easy , but the truth is 80%of jobs don,t have rising damp , a lot of driving around for free mate, imo

First thing you need is Professional Indemnity Insurance before you even think about looking at a job….

Never want to offend any one! Generally busy plasterer have more than a shed loads of work in! helping a mate out as damp survey on property came back with ridiculous spec

Oh didn't know I use the app on smart phone obviously limited to what I can see do in some respects. Anyway wallsend I assume your local?

like keith says, mate, be prepared for a lot of callbacks and driving around. i was looking at this a few months ago. did three properties after some injection work for a landlord. the "damp company" just injected the dryzone. i hacked off, skipped, replastered with s and c. they were making more than me, and i wasn't giving it away. thought it was a good idea. mentioned it to my accountant when i went to see him in january and he said i could do a few of his properties. start seeing the pound signs. but when it boils down to it i didnt want to rip people off. how many properties have really got rising damp? i couldn't tell someone they needed a dampcourse if they didnt. thats just me. and i couldnt be arsed driving around looking at jobs to tell someone they've got a leaking gutter or they'd bridged the existing dampcourse and make fcuk all out of it. then i started looking at the liability etc and then i thought why have i wasted the time even thinking about it. then again if you can find three or four a month that really need doing you'll make a decent living.

forgot to mention, there was fcuk all the matter with the properties as far as i could see. the first had a leak in the bathroom over the kitchen and the damp specialists injected that wall. fcuk me. one of the others probably did have rising damp in an old outhouse that had been converted to a kitchen. but the rest of it was just condensation, poor ventilation etc. but you can make a living doing it because when i mentioned it to the landlord he looked at me like i was a fool. he wanted there to be rising damp because it was a failsafe as far as he was concerned, if you see what i mean. he thought that would be the end of it. but it probably won't be
