Looking for some ideas of how to finish the inside of the opening for a log burner. what have others done other than sand and cement rubbed up. .?.Pictures would be grateful. Thanks .

Thanks Jessica .Yes could get a skin of brick in but looking for something different. Was thinking of a tile or maybe a Ashler render effect.

Here’s a few different ones iv done. First is bricks slips
33605
33606

Second is concrete/vermiculite panels that come ready tiled and pointed with brick slips and dabbed on
33607

Last one is cement board skimmed and painted

Vitcas rubbed up.........done that a few times for some customers.

Having said that I just fire-lined and skimmed inside my own fireplace and it's quite close to the stove......done it 10 years ago with nay problems.

I have done tile onto hardy backer and carried the tiles round onto the front face by 100mm to create a surround. Brick slips, mini bricks. 50mm thick sand stone slabs, S&C ashlar depending on size of opening and wether a real burner or pretend one is going in, gypsum of varying types and even created fake mullions and lintels using bonding and browning mixed with multi and then painted.
