Which thermal insulation boards

The best insulated plasterboards to use are Celotex...obviously the thicker the better but you will see a very good improvement even using 27.5mm.

These boards have a vapour control layer...this will stop moisture in the house passing through the board and condensing on the cold solid wall in the cavity. If there is no sign of damp direct bond should be fine, if the wall is damp try to fix the damp issue then use battens or membrane before boarding. Avoid gaps in the boards...seal around the outside with foam.

If you opt for cheap sh*tty thermal boards like polystyrene backed you will need a vapour control layer behind the boards...e.g battens, polythene, thermal boards.

Thanks for that mate. When you say that improvement will be made with 27.5mm boards the link you sent has 15mm or is that a 27.5mm coz of the 12.5mm plaster board attached to it so is that classified as a 27.mm board.

I was looking at these what's you thoughts on these:

35% of heat in home is lost through walls. Can I ask what amount of savings do you think you are going to make with the thinnest insulating board you can buy? If you are going to the expence and trouble of doing this job you may as well do a half decent job otherwise you are wasting your time.

Tis up to you. :endesacuerdo::endesacuerdo:

You should be speaking to the manufacturers about the spec of different boards. Most on here would only really know about fitting them or the ones they have in their own homes. Insulating board is very very good though.

The knauf boards are no good. You need the Celotex boards. Yes 15mm insulation, 12.5mm plasterboard, total 27.5mm. Don't try to cut costs here, if you want effective insulation and no problems with condensation in the cavity Celotex boards are the way to go. Celotex have a good technical helpline, give them a call for a specification for your property. Everyone has a budget 27.5mm will be getter than nothing but for a good U Value you are probably looking between 60-80mm insulation, which will be around £80 per board.

Yes after looking into it further knauf are not really ideal. I been ringing around for the celotex boards 37.5mm so 25mm insulation together with 12.5mm plasterboard so probably. Would have preferred the thicker ones but like you said very expensive but then I can across these on eBay anybody have any ideas on these:

Look at this on eBay

Thanks

Was also thinking of maybe putting thicker insulation downstairs in the sitting areas, and thinner insulation upstairs in the bedrooms, the bedrooms are velux window rooms so have rafters and I have already insulated the rafters with insulation boards so was thinking that I might get away with it.

Thick insulation between the rafters, solid wall insulation internally or externally, ground floor insulation, sound insulation between floors.

If you cut costs your heating bills will be more expensive in the long run.

Theres no cheap way to insulate I'm afraid mate...I had the same on when I converted my place, insulation was one of the mostly costly materials.
