Well you can burn them in using an angle grinder or a file then an oil stone.

OR

You can do 9 months of rendering that using does it...lol

Use an oilstone to wear down the square edges (could take a couple of hours) then smooth with some wet and dry. This'll do the edges but to properly break it in ....use it!

Alternatively if you have one worn in use the new one for laying on and backing coats for a while.

if you shop around you can also get them pre-worn in to also try and get yourself a few weeks sand and cement work that will do the job.
