Hello gents
Just a quick question for yu from a diluty plasterer...ive only been plastering for about 6 months or so doing small jobs,, My finish is spot on now but only done walls no bigger than about 3 to 4m at biggest..
Ive just boarded a wall in my house which is about 5.5 in lenght..so my question is can i wet the boards to help with suction and slow things down incase it catches up with me
cheers

You would have major problems putting skim onto a wet plasterboard mate, it would slide all over the place. Could be funny to do it to another plasterers walls though:RpS_thumbup:

thats only a bag of finish mate. just be prepared properly. get all of your water ready, a spare bucket of water to wizz the drill in so you havent got to clean it later on, get it on, flatten it inbetween coats if its not good enough then top it off, once the top coats on itll hang for a while. long enough for you to wash out the buckets then away you go. pull the top 2ft down from the ceiling then long strokes from the floor upwards. piece of piss

buy a sponge float and plastic trowel. and a pot of cream of tartar. and an mtec 100. and get a labourer to help u. and make it a rolling hit. u should be fine then. :-)

you used the spat lately? was thinking about it today, all i do now a days is ceilings, well 90% of my work anyway. if its as good as everyone says on ceilings it would be the best bit of kit i could ever own. did you get the pole with yours?

nah iv been off for a while and then been outside a lot. its good on lids and walls i think. i didnt get a pole no. too tight for that. on that job u did with me, me and me mate had 7 1/2 bags on him on the tops on a ladder, me on bottoms with the spat, and we werent rushing. but then again i am a hero

Hi Scott
Your wall look big to you because you never done one that size before. Like beddy says get everthing ready near to hand now think were the middle of the wall is, and put one half on first do not finish on a scrim joint fot this half. Next put your first coat on the other half of wall, now go back and trowel over the half you started on your just tidy it up now mix again and lay the second coat over the last part of the wall you have just put on. All your now doing in troweling up to a finish. If it needs water give it a little splash , keep windows closed, no hot breeze blowing over the wall setting it off quicker.
Good luck with it mate you can do it.

prob best to start earlier rather than later aswell if u want to work a bit cooler. lunch time with the sun shining through the windows can be a bit of a chore

bullshit to doing it in 2 halves! its a bag of finish ffs. like i said get it on, flatten it quickly if your not happy with it then second coat it.

cheers for the comments lads...yeah suppose i will have a crack at it..im always organised with gear and clean as i go so i dont know what im worried about really,,will let you know how i get on..

Beddy scotts only been doing it 6 months whats that tell you. His fecking trowel wont be broke in yet. feck sake he is still learning.

well henry, hes said hes doing 4m2 to a decent standard so his trowel must be broken in enough. im sure when hes done his 4m2 hes been sat round waiting to trowel it up. where as rather than sitting round you just keep going.

ul be suprised how much u can actually do when u have to

exactly. just keep going and before you know it its on. that is unless youre 100ft in the air working off a scissor jack in a big chapel. going up and down up and down up and down because of the annoying rsjs. while your mate does 2 small walls/

do it properly... put thin coat first (all wall) it will dry no wories and put your original coat u usualy put as second coat, like u would do on sand and cement wall. it should help. cheers :RpS_biggrin: make shure u have mixed planty off plaster and not to thick

Not my fault you support rangers beddy LOL. hey did you see the celtic manager put the boot in on that guy who attacked him. Never realised how much rangers and celtic hate each other.

lennon got judas'd lol. in glasgow it can be really bad between the supporters. my labs a celtic fan so we have quite a bit of banter at work. especially after old firm day

hes a bit of a prick to be honest, in my eyes nothing to do with religion or race etc. i just dont like him.

i dont know why a hearts fan attacked him to be honest mate, it wouldnt suprise me if the bombs and the bullet that have been sent are from hearts. they obviously have something against him

yeah i was talking with my lab about it today, hes a ceptic fan and he said hearts hate them as much as rangers do. its all a bit OTT to be honest. hes a cun.t because hes a cun.t, not because of his religion or what team he manages

exactly. i really like o'neill and hes been at my 3 worst teams, villa, leicester and celtic. think he'd be a good england boss

Once you have the first coat on go and second coat then it seems to hang forever....

speed comes with time :-)

Good luck and welcome to the forum

Beddy play nice :-)

Danny

my comments were not meant to be rude or offend anyone danny, sorry if they came across that way. i was genuinely saying its only 1 bag of plaster, plasterboard gives you enough time to get a decent amount on before you have to worry about it trowelling up so realistically, it shouldnt be that difficult

Wetting boards????

Easy Peasy...Done it with no probs at all dont know what i was worrying about..

Got first coat on, straight on with second coat and had time to have a quick cuppa before starting to trowell..(even though my arse was twitching a bit hahaa)

Good confidence booster for me and cheers again for the advice
