Saw a spinal specialist yesterday and she was a little heavy handed doing my assessment ( have a bulging disc causing chronic sciatic pain) anyhow....I got up for work this morning and the pain was worse than normal, drove a couple of miles down the road before I went into full spasm and nearly crashed the van. Laid on the side of the road in a muddy ditch screaming in pain, finally made it home and the morphine is starting to kick in :RpS_w00t: Happy Saturday everyone :RpS_thumbsup:

Not nice mate ,sounds a bit like me lastnight coming out of pub well the ditch part! Paying for it this morning feel like I've been hit in the back of the head by Ivan drago

puff.. I would have sucked it up and got on with it... have you tried that ancient remedy of getting someone to stick their fist up ur arse ? stings a bit, but takes your mind off the pain mate..x

Morphine!!!:-0
strongest stuff I had for the same thing was Tramadol and Diazapam, never touched the sides.
The painkillers, not the fist :RpS_scared:

I know what you mean, the meds just make everything feel a bit numb but the pain is still there. :RpS_blink: I think @Nisus has the best solution

Are you having an operation?

Having a cortisone injection on Tuesday to try and release the trapped sciatic nerve, then other mri scan to see if it's worked if not then microdiserctomy procedure will be considered. Probably spelt that wrong, it was described to me as keyhole surgery to remove part of the bulge around s1 nerve

Best of luck Oli :RpS_scared:

Microdiscectomy :rolleyes) that's what I had, the disc wall had split so they went in and scraped all the shoit away. The surgeon said it was akin to running on a flat tyre and I have shrunk by a quarter of an inch or something :-0
Now I get sciatica down the other leg FFS :RpS_crying:

Nightmare, what's causing sciatica on other side? :-(
What was recovery like after the microdisectoromorotyy :RpS_unsure:

Tried acupuncture , only gave a little relief. Your method sounds more like sexual torture :RpS_unsure: you've been coming on here too long

Google "low intensity laser treatment , " or bio flex laser
Used this for my knees a couple of years ago ,I had great results , very big in Canada , not sure about uk ?

Have got the same problem. Had an operation on bulging disc at L4/5 in the lower back 7 years ago. Since then have had a further 4 operations and 8 spinal injections on the same area. Now left with a **** load of scar tissue and 2 prolapsed discs at L4/5 and L5/6 that the medics can do nothing more with because they have operated so much if the go into my back once more I will be in a wheelchair and that came from a Prof of Neurosurgery. Now left in constant pain and popping a total of 26 tablets a day.
My message is to think long and hard before letting anyone operate on your back.Sometimes it works sometimes it don't.

Sounds horrible mate, best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Your right about the acupuncture very little relief and short lived, I tried most pain relief when I dislocated my elbow.
I found morphine and sitting about in my pants eating quavers and playing one handed fifa on the playstation for a couple of months worked well.

Well, the microdiscetororomolorogist said that because the disc has no fluid left inside it flattens out and therefore becomes wider. Mine has decided to settle near to the sciatic nerve of my left leg, with a 2 or 3 out of 10 level of pain, which jumps to 7 or 8 out of ten if I've been boarding ceilings or lifting too much, but being a hard as fook Northerner I just get on with it

Have a look at this video, that's what is happening to your back:
Herniated Disk Animation - See How Bulging Disks Happen - Watch WebMD Video

I was off for 3 or 4 months after the op. My doctor, swinging about in his armchair in his nice cosy office told me to start back on 'light duties' :)

Thanks for all the feedback on this thread chaps, both scary and positive :RpS_unsure: I haven't moved more than 8 feet since I crawled in the door. The pain is indescribable, I've booked a taxi and I'm on my way to @Nisus house for some herbal relief :RpS_thumbsup:
