Starting a job tomorrow and still in 2 minds on how best to attack the hall walls - They are a shiny dimpled surface similar in appearance to a golf ball - However, the dimples are too big for 2 coats of multi so was planning on PVA, slurry coat of Bonding and then skim - Anyone else got any thoughts ??

Remeber the walls are shiny painted

should work out fine mate but you'll be waiting an hour for the slurry coat to go off .........could you devil coat the walls and three coat skim

Its hard without seeing it but I would thistle bond it walls leave till next day tight bonding coat if the walls arnt to bad then skim.

Is it a price job or day rate ???
The problem is people just want it done and arnt willing to wait or pay....in that case pva wait till tacky then tight coat of bonding then skim

i wouldnt even bother pva'ing it.. cant see the point..
if its proper shiny like gloss bonding will stick like s**t to it..and the pva will take ages to dry anyway..pva is for sealing suction..
otherwise its gypbond and lay the skim on real thick first coat, bonding will be better though if theyre that deep..

it depends what it is he's laying up over ...
Thats the problem with asking questions we need to see the problem for ourselves

Bond it...

I did a hall/stairs just before Xmas with textured paint - slapped the first coat of multi on good and thick to fill it, then topped it off. When it pulled up you could still see the texture in the multi - but not the paint underneath. Had to top it twice more to get a nice finish - BIG PITA.

I would scutch some of the paint off and them give it a coat of bonding before skimming. I always try to get the plaster to the brick or blockwork wherever possible, maybe me being cautious but I dont know how well the paint is stuck to the background on jobs like this.

if youre there on price you should have been told whats wanted............one coat it if youre on price ;)

throw a handfull of cement in your water then mix your bonding in dont pva the walls get the bonding on smartish will go off pretty fast ready to skim in half an hour or so
