rendering a single extension and where the wallplate is showing would 100mm scrim over the timber and 50mm on to the wall be sufficient to prevent cracking rather than the hassle of using eml its just a thought, thanks

You need to cover the timber with something like breathable roofing felt and have the felt go over the joint onto the bricks by at least 50mm. Then eml and have that go past the felt onto the bricks.

At worst something stcky like rendaid then bed mesh in and nail the mesh to the wood to stop it blowing off. Then I would mesh again in the scratch coat. Trouble is if the wood absorbs water out of the mix it will swell then shrink back on drying, hence why it best kept dry.

eml, then you have done everything possible so no comebacks !
i have worked on sites that would not purchase eml, they have applied pva, also cut plasterboard strips and scrimmed the plates. but if i was putting my name to it i would eml.
