i have damp coming through the joints of a ceramic tiled kitchen floor but only in certain parts of the floor is it possible to tank over the existing tiles and then put down vinyl tiles on top as i dont want to take up the tiles anybody done this before

Yes mate, is it definitely damp & not grease?
Try a liquid damp proof membrane, then self levelling compound.
