Why do I always get sent tenders with little or no time to price them.

for example I got a nice job in the post today but have to submit my price "no later" than the 4th of May.

Why dont they give me/us a month or so?????????????

Because the job has already been awarded to their regular plastering company, but they have to be seen to be sending out a number of tenders.

FACT, and if ur price is 'reasonable' they will give Mareck the chance to beat it

Do you remember Hill & Lang Richard? They were part of the Sleeman group with offices in Exeter, Plymouth & Truro. A complete bunch of c**ts. Now taken over by ROK, another complete bunch of c**ts. I used to do work for them and they would get me to price jobs, then tell me the other prices put in so I would hopefully beat them. They were the worst payers ever, lying about posting cheques etc., not paying legitimate dayworks and sending out tenders 2 or 3 days before they had to be in. Told them to f**k off and not send me anymore enquiries in the end because I was binning them without even opening them.

Yes Tony I do remember them and I think ROK's payment terms are now 90 days ... bunch of tossers.

I will phone the QS on tuesday and ask him what the crack is etc

they leave as little time as poss now. I had one tender for 22houses and 2days ti get it in so i had to work through one night to do it then go to work soon as i finished it? the world of contracting!

IMO the reasons are, you rush it and prob miss one or two things that keeps the price down. they have sent it out to maybe 4 or 5 others with a longer time scale but then realised their budget was lower than all the submissions so need an emergancy price. and the other is as above they have someone usuall and want to either check they aint being ripped or to use as a haggle tool against the other firm but with no intention of swapping subbies. Qs game is as bent as ever right now. i know one firm who gets the best tender price from one developer every time then beats bit by 5p/M and he has every one of their sites!

What he said

Normally you would write a letter of introduction to a company and request inclusion on their tender list. I've not done this for years, but I expect nowadays you would need to send them copies of your H&S policy, method statements/risk assessments, PLI/Emp Liability insurance details, CIS, CSCS etc, just to get a look in. In two words.....Fcuk em.

Would you also have to pull apart your bum cheeks and let them see in there as well Tony?

we have to keep out the sh.it lol

LOL yeah they are scared that a contractor could go under mid contract on them and leave them in the sh1t but they aint clocked that its because of them driving down the prices that the contracters are going under
