Me too Twitcher... all i know is its waterproof, which interests me rather a lot for a little scheme i have in mind..... Info on the net is a little sparse though unless you wanna go into technical specs and pozzolans (insert yawn here), I just wanna find out how to do it and where to get the stuff to do it without remortgaging anything!

the tech spec sheets tell you a lot about it. The Kreidezeit ones are the ones I'm familiar with.

Theyre the ones im talkin about Twitcher, What i dont understand is why the stuff so expensive to buy....

Here you go, love the way he applies it at the start :RpS_laugh:

Ive seen pictures of baths made out of this stuff but was told
you could probably buy any bath you wanted when compared to the price of this stuff.

the tadelakt you can buy commercially are just that commercial...tadelakt is a technique and not a material,I am quite happy to point a couple of you here in the right direction as for material....but not publicaly ...purely and simply because I do not want some people local to me to know about a few things.

you have availabale to you in the uk all the material needed to make your own tadelakt material......and not even close to the prices being charged by the commercial companies like Kreidezeit....here a pail of "tadelakt" is $300 dollars...and will finish 80 square feet......OUCH!!! i THINK THATS ABOUT 190 POUND PER/PAIL

As for waterproof....take that with a pinch of salt....resistant yes....proof ...no ,maybe on a rammed earth wall in morrocco

this is an exterior tadelakt project I did about 2 years ago

Dont bother with tradelakt use micro cement its same effect but cement based its better stronger stuff

one of the attractions of Tadelakt is the way it changes over time, small cracks develop for instance

theres pro's and con's to a plaster material being stronger/weaker ...but thats another disscussion.

As for micro cement well theres tonnes of them on the market and some of the systems are pretty good.....

for anyone interested you can kinda create your own micro cement,it will be more like a cement based venetian plaster, used for resurfacing old floors...and new alike.

read this use it as a reference

Skimstone

the products simplified:
the white powder is ....cement....yep its just cement they call this "hybridised cement " and sell it for about the equivilent to 80 quid for a 20kg pail ( yep no s**t )
the type1 solution is .....in this case is a damned good styrene based acrylic...go to the tile store and use the best acrylic admixture you can find.(you want high solids)
the aggregate is #70-#100 silica sand....or any other super fine sand you can find.....must be super fine.....even calcium carbonate would work.

mix it together in a ratio of about 2/1 or 1/1 sand cement....with the acrylic polymer

follow and replace the directions with material you have at hand ...and innovate....you will after mixing to a creamy paste ,have a product that will stand upto the weather ,try it on a piece of cement board ...and leave it outside....youll be surprised....tough as nails.

This is a good starting point for a mix but the product you mention skimstone is shat i use different cement to opc its better as in its stronger but its 4 times the price also sbr is a good polymer use it at 2-1
if your looking for a decorative coloured waterproof finish use knauf finish add pigment and apply in a random fashion as with venetian plaster. when fully dry seal with a penetrating sealer for a gloss finish wax and polish for marmarino style finishes add some kiln dried sand for texture

thats the problem people have with the waterproofing side, coat of thompsons waterseal... than wax as normal...100% waterproof..tried and tested

appreciate the effort gone into showing cement based alternatives for Tadelakt, but it's still not the Tadelakt people are willing to pay for over here.

People are attracted to it's imperfect finish, the way it ages - the patina that develops over the years. They're also attracted to it's history.

Hi Twitcher
I've been following few of your threads/replies about Tadelakt recently and what was wondering if you done some already ( let's say from your last discussion on the forum with the guy who was saying that Tadelakt is not for Uk ) and would like to know your opinion.Have you done any courses you can recommend? Can you compare German Tadelakt to original from Morocco? I have few clients that are really keen to do Tadelakt and I'm keen to learn new skills but don't know where to start . ( I only found one course in UK so far )

I think Tadelakt's fine for the UK, I can't really get to the bottom of their argument tbh.

I've only used Kreidezeit's tadelakt so far.

Hi there, i was a polished plasterer and specialised in Tadelakt.
We also used the Tadelakt (Kreidezeit) from Germany as the original stuff from Morocco is very rough and full of bits.
The baths we made were made from blocks then moulded into shape with cement then coated with Tadelakt. the sinks, bases, wall units etc were covered in wedi board or hardie backer boards.
Tadelakt is a very labour intensive art, but if done correctly will last for years.
it also has a good water resistance, and feels like silk.

There is a course that i would recomend its run bye Mike Wye, if you Google his name you will find him.
hope this helps.
