Still concerned I'm not fast enough...

Spanky, It sounds to me as though the more difficult areas are slowing you down. You should view them as mere technicalities and each section should be approached in the same way. For example, if you can't remove a socket, then it's two semi-circles or four outward strokes. Every time you use the same technique to solve a given problem, you will reinforce that concept and it will naturally become second nature. A technique is only mastered when it becomes effortless. For example, when you ride a bike, do you have to concentrate on balancing? :RpS_biggrin:

Yes grass hopper wax on wax off! :RpS_laugh:

Skimming is second nature I think that's my issue as not matter how big the room is auto pilot kicks in lid, ops, ops. Think I need to start shaking it up a bit kick myself out of auto

I wanna pass out thinking about some of the areas you cover! I don't worry anmore am I fast enough. I work hard but don't over do it, its just not worth it to me. I don't seem to find myself short of work either (touch wood) so it can't be that bad! On average 5bags a day does it for me but I work on my own on domestics for the vast majority so I can afford to chill out a bit more I suppose :)

I'm very much the same mostly domestic, but this one in question was a refurb, some board mostly overskim, on a meter rate a tight one at that. Said to the builder I will do a few rooms and let him know If I can commit to the full 24 rooms. Well I can't so he can find another mug. I'm defo thinking site work is dead, but it's not often I have to go on site so I will be in domestics mode :)

I tell you what spanky you set up the job and we will go from there...., you give someone advice ay. .

Muppet

what you talking about? Muppet?

I said I had 2 rooms @56m2 you said you would split them in to 3 gauges 1 day 112m2 by my reckoning.. Tell me where I went wrong???

get off your high horse helmet!!

So you would have spread 112m2 ohh right...

Spanky just because you can't do 112m2 a day don't call someone a liar when they say they can. When I was young and hungry I'd do that sort of metreage a day at times, I couldn't now and don't need to, but it is possible.

I honestly think a spread should be able to make a days money doing say 60-65m2 a day and anything over that is what makes the job worth doing.

I used to think that but know I've realised if you're in a house you need to do 70-80m a day to cover the money you lose on the staircase and cupboards

What I meant was that the prices should be good enough to earn a days money doing 60-65m2 Dave.

You're both talking about the same thing. Yes 70 odd meters aday , fair meterage working by yourself.
Inside cupboards, stairwells and the like with the best world , you're never going to achieve that sort of meterage.
Then when you add up all the cleaning down and setting up time , you need to be earning a days money on around 60 meters aday because thats what you're going to average.

Its a bit like when you ask a bricky , how many blocks he can lay in a day , answer will be 300/400 . Ask him how many blocks on average in a week, by the time he has loaded out, then built his corners , sills and lintels in , dpc's and all that goes with it.
Lucky to actually throw down an average of a 100 blocks .

I know so really you should be doing 45-50m a day and earning you're money try doing 70-80 in a house it's not easy

can i just ask fella these metres that your quoting is it on boardwork? and working on your own?....if so would it be 1 coat?

i only ask as im being honest that meterage would kill me with no labourer and 2 coating!!!!

I take it back

The other thing as well I was on a kier site last year and all the health and safty crap has gone worse ten fold since I was last on a site previous to that, toolbox talks, turnstiles key carded, having to do a mini course on how to use step ladders everyday if you need them more than one day, hard hat indoors, and the worst thing ever fckin podiums!!! To small to sling the handboard and trowel around in it so you have to sort of hang out of it, but don't for get to close the door behind you even though you will only be in there for 5 seconds emptying your handboard!! This job was 2.50m2 which I though was doable before I seem it, there huge blocks of windows which 1 they only paid m2 not linear for reveals and 2 The ceiling height was 3.2 so you had to go on a podium!! Couple all this will crap prices I can't do it it's F*****g sole destroying. I was one of 15 spreads who walked out because of the skimming price, there was already a few on float and set suckin the CM off as we could have made a a good wage on the float and set!

Good long day ready prepaired rooms its very possible but then again wouldnt do it it everyday as it does hurt but id do it very often for £500 a day

Did you get nothing for the windows or reveals? I know what you're saying 2.50 seems a half decent rate unfortunately at the mo

When I was in my twenties and thirties I used to average about 90m2 on ceilings, this included all scrimming and any other prep needed.
On floating with S&C I'd average about 70m2 and skimming about 80m2 both including all prep, and all done to a high standard.
Oh and screeding I used to average just under 60m2 a day but would sometimes do 84m2 (different house types), mixed and laid all on my todd.
I never specialised in any one part of the trade and knew people that could do more m2 than myself in each of the different aspects.

Just got the m2 rate for reveals! When I say blocks of windows it was a school so 5-6m running by 2100 in height, there was no ruff and smooth just ruff every room had windows,

this was your neck of the woods Andy, over the water in Kent

That's good mate if you're getting the full rate for reveals believe it or not

You're is used when you want to shorten 'you are'. Your is used everywhere else. Please don't take this as me having a dig cos it's not the case.

My spelling, grammar etc is awful I re read my invoices and email 3 times to make sure they look an sounds right, if I'm honest it's only recently I've found out the difference between you're and your.

As a plasterer I have so much book smarts that even spelling is sometimes googled lol

How do you mean? We were only getting paid a meter rate for what we have done ie the small bit below the windows and the reveals, which the reveals were paid on a sm2 as well so the whole span of the windows only equated to a couple of meters. Is that what you were saying that, that's good?

You a Trojan mate, how's the body holding up now?

No Trojan mate just bought up to work hard for the things I want out of life.

The body.....well I'm due to visit the hospital about a painful left knee but to be honest apart from being way overweight my body is in pretty good nick. Many of my friends are in much worse physical shape even though or perhaps because they don't have tough physical jobs.

did a patch other day for a mate on my day off took me an hour but did have 3 cups of tea a read of paper play with my mates kids transformers and then cleaned up
