Just wondering what anyone else does??

When I fit these I always backfill with vermiculite mixed with cement so that down the line when the flue corrodes away you are still left with a lined opening..

Guy i m doing a job for say he wants it done with loose vermiculite so it's easier to replace flue liner when it fails,

Also, a "specialist" has told him to backfill it with nothing, anyone know better? Thanks..

The HETAS registered chap that helped me install mine said it didn't matter if it was insulated or not. Your back filling with cement etc will only be effective if the liner was properly central in the old chimney, all the way down without touching the sides.

The insulation supposedly helps the chimney liner heat up quicker so it then starts to draw quicker also prevents any condensation forming not sure if it does though.

Its my thinking that these new stainless steel flues wont corrode ? I might be wrong ?

They do break down over time from the heat.

A mate of mine used to fit these as part of his job. He advised me to fill the chimney with loose vermiculite up to the last few inches and then put a vermiculite/cement mix in the last bit, although this last bit was optional
