Soak drywall tape or not?

It is my sincere apologies if this has been asked a million times before, but what are the advantages and disadvantages of soaking the tape in water before you use it. Can you tell me how long it will last? Thanks

There's a good youtube video explaining it.

Basically normal white(ish) wallboard tape doesn't need wetting.

It can shrink too much when wetted, then blister and blow.

Just make sure there's enough compound on and that the paper tape is NOT touching the substrate, and you'll be fine.

There's also fibafuse tape aswell which is good and more reliable. Depends on how much you have to do.

Even when Artexing it was only the original brown tape that needed to be soaked.

There was also the artex approved white tape they used to recommend wetting.
Bit thinner than wallboard tape and a bit wider.
Bang that on with the small bags of artex quick start, (which cost fortunes), to get the jobs turned out quicker.

The white Artex tape didn't have to be wetted, it was the main reason for using it, especially seeing as it was dearer.
