so how we all doing for work so far

So how we all doing for work so far this year. Well I can only speak for myself and say am about 50% down on last year. It seems like the 3 day working week we had in the 70s.
 
some lads wont want to hear it,
but same as above,snowed under at moment if im being honest.
 
and me! was struggling when i was with the old geeza, left him in september and then started with a mate for an insurance firm last month and havent had any time off yet. working most weekends now aswell.
 
Yeah ime busy, money not like it used to be but not silly money like some people post on here.
 
not as bad out there, as the media will make you beleive.
the only cripler at the moment is fuel going through the roof and its doubtful weather anything wil alter in the budget next week.
 
Im busy too seem to price work up and put a better price in than usual and seem to be getting the work in.Strange!!!
 
That's what I like to hear across the board lads are busy so it's heading my way and am soon going to BUSY again.
 
ive got 2 vans and doing about 250 a week in fuel on them plus the mrs motor, im single handed paying for north yorkshire council to fill pot holes up in tax at the moment, only good point is i get vat back.

feast or famine henry im sure youll pick up as and when
 
monday i was in northampton then kenilworth, tuesday i was in redditch then coventry and today i was in redditch. i seem to spend longer driving than i do working lately
 
You carnt keep a good spread like me down for long owls , I will not drop my price just to turn money over pointless.
 
I think its being in the right place at the right time,Priced one job up customer came to see me as was in the same street,priced it up 6 weeks ago they rang me to say that is ok when can you start.
 
2-3 days a week actual work but heres the big but henry make sure on your non plastering days you do some sort of networking .for me its b&q it works at least 3 people come to me each time im there doesnt sound a lot but it soon adds up specially when most want work doing.also whilst there any trade vans that pull in i give a card to.

It will come good for you spunk it always does . April am booked out next wk 80m2 render and skim I have 2 trowels to break in ideal on sand and cement me thinks. A couple of bedrooms thursday fri and the women has the biggest pair of tits I ve seen nipples like plums you carnt help but look at them when she is talking to you LOL.

september holy s**t in 30 years of being self employed i can count on 1 hand the amount of times ive had work for 2-3 months ahead very very rare.

mind saying that i have been my own worst enemy at times and have taken no s**t from customers(well with in reason) now i have mouths to feed im much more affable
 
If ive had 3 to 4 wks work in advance then i would class myself as busy,if it was 3 to 4 months then i would need help.
 
Forgot to mention I'll be in France for 6weeks from July.:RpS_wink:
But it soon adds up mate & people seem to want to wait.
I've got a couple of big jobs to do plus all the smaller jobs it soon fills the diary up.
Its mostly all plastering jobs but got a few tiling & painting jobs aswell.
Last year i was about 2-3weeks booked up in advance but for me this year it's gone mad & they say people are skint & not spending money!! Bullsh1te!
 
Yes as you say it all mounts up all the little bits and your big jobs,and it is all bull about the money situation,every job i have been to see has been a yes and i have put the price up.Work smarter not harder thats my motto now.

Summat else I do is I tell the customer when I will do the job not the other way round.
My mates always working weekends & late each day to fit people in because they want it doing yesterday & he's probably scared of losing the job if he says he can't start the job till in a months time.

& I like to have weekends free too.

did all that 7 day a week stuff and it nearly killed me----didn't know what day it was


now i have kids i try to keep w/e free

830am----till 5pm mon to fri ----weekends off -----the odd one if i have to is ok and will work late if needed

but this year

got 3 mths work in france
3 wks germany
2-3 months here
 
Its good to see every ones busy well almost, its the same here flat out at the mo got at least 3-4 months ahead with loads in the pipe line so its looking good plus i have been doing weekends aswell dont like doing it but it seems to be leading to more jobs.............But even if i only had a weeks work ahead of me my old man used to tell me a weeks along time in this trade you never know what will turn up and he's always been right.
 
I do think there is work out there to be had. I can only speak for myself and say I have been at it a long time and a lot of people no me and pass my number on.
We do not really know what area has a giving amount of spreads in it which could lead to a shortage of work going around. I suppose you could live in a area with a high umemployment and this may lead to a shortage of work who is to say. As always price for some is coming into play on some jobs and not others.
For those of you who are finding it hard to get work then the above means nothing to you or helps you. This guy years ago said to me
"No Fecker is going to help you except Yourself". so if you want the phone to ring you have to make it ring. Thinking on it, look at what rocksolid is doing at BQ
making the phone ring.
