Probably left over roof slates cut into strips, they were right bodging bastards back in the day!
 
The whole of the upstairs of a pub we are refurbing is covered in them .ceilings as well

Not really a bodge, they actually made an effort to provide an extra key by making the holes in each slate.
 
No it ain't a bridge it been done very neat imo .just a pain to hack them off with all the lead nails they've used
 
I'm in Buxton Chris. Never seen them in Manchester pal .wouldn't like to be putting them back on
