Hi All,

I have a couple of questions which I'd be grateful for your advice on, please.

  • I need to repair blown render over a cement lintel, all the render and plaster has been removed and my plan is to PVA the lintel, then set an angle bead, then apply bonding, and skim.

My question is: is this the correct approach? and should I apply a scratch coat of bonding then a top coat?

  • There are also patches of blown plaster on other walls, the blown plaster has been scraped back to the render which is sound.

My question is: can I just re-skim the wall or should I fill this patches first with bonding?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Give the lintel a weak pva to stop the dust and just bead and bond as you said.

Patches on the wall, you can do either. As youve got to mix bonding anyway you may aswell give it a weak pva and a thin coat of bonding. If you choose not to then just fill them with skim before you do the wall.

Thanks Beddy, looks like I had the right idea, but it's good to be sure before I get stuck in.

Beddy, one last question - is it correct to do a scratch coat and top cost of bonding in this situation?
Thanks.

No real need Mate, again if you feel comfortable doing it in 2 then do so. Just make sure you key the scratch coat ready for the top
