Rendering/ plastering .... problem

Hi all
I'm Rendering a small garden retaining wall...
And Having a bit of a problem with the mix or sand,
If anyone could help...

The wall is 2 solids high galvanized corner beads tops and corners...new blocks

Beads aren't sitting very proud so I need a fairy thin scratch coat and topcoat

I did a test today and The problem is the plastering sand seems to be very corse/gritty and won't work into the beads. (Irish plastering sand)
I tried it with and without a scratch coat, when I tried the scratch coat because the plastering sand was corse I couldn't get a thin enough coat..
So had to give up on that idea for the test
And just went with the one coat.

Then tried adding a bit of mortar sand into the mix which helped a bit,
but still when floating off the plastering sand seemed to be falling away or pulling away from the beads..

The mix just didn't seem muddy/ creamy enough
If that makes sense.... cement mixer was used

Mix was 4 kilsaran plastering sand
Cement 1
Waterproofer plasticizer and a bit of sbr

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks rr

Thanks for the reply lads.
I was aware the beads shouldent be to tight before starting but I probably could have done with probably lifted them a bit more, I thought the plastering sand would skim a lot finer..the problem is more at the very edge/corner of the bead...I stuck up a few pictures and that was with the finer mortar sand added to the mix... hadn't a hope before that

Render does struggle to fix through skim beads lol

I was thinking that.

OP have you nailed those beads in tight as fook? Sorry I was going to leave this for people who do rendering but I couldn't help it?

Get a plasterer serves you right tightwad etc.

Any chance of a photo?

You need stainless or plastic beads galvanised will rot after a few years and your scratch coat needs to be thicker than the top coat and just scratch over wings of beads so you can get the top coat on

Use plastic beads,I find metal beads shite for rendering

Use playpit sand

knock that wall down and get it back to fence get some nice big pots for plants and put that trowel in retirement (y)
