Render board

Hi guys
Started a job on Friday, render board covered with Hp x base with mesh , tint and acrylic topcoat .
When applying the base coat on the render board I was surprised how quickly it pulled in while bedding in the mesh.
Is this normal ? . We were having to coat small areas at a time any more and the mesh wouldn't stick. Is this normal ?

I used Hp 12 not Hp x

We just finished one using the same spec and it was not fun! The base pulled in quick and we had to keep remixing in the tub and dont really rate the topcoat either except its cheap.

We just done a thin coat render job on 6mm board and we had to apply a primer 24 hours before base coat but this was a baumit system
