I hope not . No it looks like it from the picture ha ha . Hes a 1st class builder who did the extension one of very few I come across ha ha

It's OK to do, but if they are then the holes are in the wrong place, and they should be spec'd by the structural engineer who did the beam calcs. That seems OTT but if there's a claim for movement or after a fire then the insurance company will use it as an excuse not to pay.

It's one of the reasons I always take pictures of beams when we install them. I then have evidence if a plumber sticks a pipe through them at a later date.
