Hi, having the front of the house re-rendered and have been told various methods by various plasterers. Keen to gauge opinion on what is the best method of doing the job.

1899 semi, all have top story smooth rendered with black timbers. Our render has blown in many places and timbers are rotting. Some spliced in repairs to wood, no idea how old the render is.

I've been told 2 techniques, both using a weber product

1) render whole frontage, the secure timbers through render.

2) timbers first, then render in between. Mention of using lead on horizontals and sealing to reduce water ingress.

Advocates of technique 1) feel that panels will shrink as render dries and wood takes up some moisture.

So, what to do?
Thanks!

That does sound like the most sensible method.

is the "timbers first" the traditional method and super ceded now?
